A reminder as we enter the holiday season:

You celebrate in whatever ways make you feel comfortable, loved, and bright through winter, even if that means not observing holidays in a traditional sense or at all. You protect you, darlings, and have a wonderful wintertime ❄️
There’s nothing normal about expecting family members to be in the same room when one has abused the other. This is abnormal. This is harmful. This is perpetuating more abusive patterns. When you elevate family traditions over protecting the abused, you are re-creating the abuse

Cover reveal ! 💅🍒🚬

Here’s the pretty incredible cover for my translation of FAVORITA by Michelle Steinbeck, out from @faberbooks.bsky.social on 12 February.

“Part hallucinatory road trip, part feminist revenge fantasy: a wild, furious and mischievous novel…”

A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

‘Khairani helped me understand that poetry is all around us & that there’s something for everyone.’

Alice Wong was THE best of us. *She helped us understand crip beauty is all around us.)

At this year’s Int’l Booker Prize ceremony, a white translator went on a rant TO MY FACE about how translators should translate into their first languages only and I was genuinely flabbergasted because I was like… Do you know whom you’re speaking to???
this publisher asked if the translator was born in Canada and if they're a Canadian citizen, and asked the translator to SPLIT fees with a translator who is a "native speaker"
