Very excited to be translating CASAS LIMPIAS by María Agúndez, out spring 2027 from @manillapress.bsky.social as CLEAN HOUSES!

🏠 🏡 🧼 🧽 🫧 🧹 🧺
A book with a pink cover and 1950s-style illustration of women cleaning in green dresses, on a teak wooden table with a cup of coffee and the leaves of a spider plant creeping into the frame.

On #ITD2025, I’m completing a translation from Indonesian, and presenting in an all-day internal conference held by a European film archive, on archival materials from Indonesia.

And also? I’m reminding global majority translators: protect yr time, yr health, and yr energy as much as is possible.

the booker prize judges make a lot of fuss about having to read 153 books. but assuming an average weight of 750g per book, that comes in at 115kg of literature - or just under the weight of a single adult male ostrich

📢 Translators, you too can join the @alcs.co.uk and get paid for having your books checked out of the library.

A lifetime membership costs just £36. They take it out of your first payment, so you don’t pay a penny up front.

Since I joined in 2020, I have received £515.45! What are you waiting for?

A beautiful review of Lalla Romano's In Farthest Seas from @ronanhession.bsky.social in today's Irish Times!
"It’s a sign of the quality of the writing[...] that even when reading analytically as a reviewer, I often found myself putting the book down still in a dream of its voice." @pushkinpress.com

I speak Spanish. I’m translating from Italian to English. For the character I’m just looking to sub out some latinates that will be less accessible to an anglophone reader, hence the interest in Esperanto. Thanks for your help!

Thanks so much! Very helpful. I have a character who speaks a hybrid language in the original. I’m trying to figure out whether a smattering of Esperanto will help me in creating a new hybrid language for English readers!
