Turchin's "elite overproduction" thesis got things wrong. It's not that there are too many fighting over a declining pie. It's that all elite systems historically face turmoil when the social foundations that gave rise to them change.

Did anyone expect the Trump DoJ to fully release the Epstein files after they worked months to redact them?
