I make stuff that makes noises, I make songs that make use of those noises, I play noises for the cat, the cat doesn’t love the noises. Perennial lurker.

I watched It’s A Wonderful Life and I didn’t cry, kind of worried about what this means about my emotional state.

Restringing a guitar is one of those productive procrastinations that makes you feel like you’re accomplishing something while putting off the thing you’re supposed to be doing except when it’s a 12-string and you put THAT task off by doing the thing you were actually supposed to do to begin with.

Ultimately this can be distilled to the simple comparison of Do They Know It’s Christmas? (cheesy, good) to We Are The World (cheesy, bad).
There's not many cultural areas where we really diverge from the States, but the Christmas canon remain one of them. I mean, we both do the trad carols and Bing, sure, but whilst the Yanks are all "O Tannenbaum" and "Carol of the Bells", we've got Wizzard, Slade, Rea, The Pogues, The Waitresses...

Question is, will I be dead before the songs on The Wicker Man (1973) soundtrack enter public domain?
On New Year’s Day the copyrights for thousands of works expire, allowing anyone to freely record, perform, or interpolate them. That includes compositions (music and lyrics, not recordings) from 1930 including standards like “Georgia On My Mind,” “Dream A Little Dream Of Me,” and “I Got Rhythm.”

This planet needs to get its shit together. Celebrating the solstice like a month into winter when we’ve got at least until April to get out on the other side of this shit. Oooh the days are getting longer, are they? Fuck you, gimme shorter days with more sunlight you frosty bastard.

Kind of hate that for all my disdain of various segments and individual examples of humanity I always find myself siding with the most human position in any given scenario.

Copilot has suggestions to fix my Excel file, does it? The file that’s a template auto-generated and populated by Microsoft Forms, that I have done absolutely nothing to? Sort yer fuckin life out, Microsoft.

I love Wikipedia. You wanna know about something? Who doesn’t! Give ‘em cash! A bunch of nerds working mostly for free to make sure information is true and correct, least you can do is help keep the lights on.

Here’s a wee snippet of my saved articles list:

This is my cyclical reminder that there's really only one consistently reliable source of info in the public record that isn't owned by right wing billionaires, who really want to put an end to it.

Please give at least the $2.75 minimum they request if you can.

A problem I have is that I was born just late enough and far away enough from America that I can’t really tell the difference between Billy Joel and Billy Crystal and I simply can’t bring myself to care enough to learn.

Tales of Terror (1962)! Vincent Price and Peter Lorre in a loose adaptation of The Cask Of Amontillado. Also the source of one of my favourite gifs.

My head says Snakes On A Plane, opening weekend, August 2006 in San Francisco. I’d arrived there a week or so before at the start of a study abroad year. Just the most joyful, silly, ecstatic experience…

…but my heart says “any time they screen The Blues Brothers at @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

Ate at the Chicago Diner last night before our set, which means I’m fully justified in demolishing a steak sandwich at Ricobene’s tonight.

This from @blockclubchi.bsky.social is great. Liars Club is one of the most welcoming places we’ve played; all the staff are lovely and they seem genuinely committed to maintaining a space for anyone to play.

We in Weaklung are developing food delivery robot dismantling merch (free!) soon. We are working on the design currently.
I came across *the* example I have been hammering with these food delivery robots.

A man with a mobility aid is forced to step aside because there is not room for him because the robot will not make room for a person (esp. those with a mobility aid who need addditional room)
