Feedback drives learning. Grades are just labels. Prioritize the learning. #LeadInclusion #FeedbackFirst #Assessment #EduSky #UDL #TeacherTwitter

Great strategy, CFR, from #PanoramaEducation.

Sample response:

“My CONCERN is that u asked me 2 clean my room 5x today. My FEELING is annoyed bc I’m trying 2 finish my schoolwork 1st. My REQUEST is that u give me a deadline to finish cleaning my room so that I can manage my own time.” #SEL #MTSS

This is a really cool and quick set of bows to put on a lesson. My favorite is “rock, paper, scissors.” It gives kids agency thru identifying something that could be “cut” to make learning clearer. #EduSky #teachers #Edutopiavideos #assessment

Traditional grading practices often fail today's learners.

Real change starts in the middle not at the extremes.

It's time to reform assessment practices to be equitable and reflective of all students, not just those born on 3rd base.

Me waiting for the penny to drop when a non-teacher asks:
"How come teachers still get paid for six weeks holiday until September when they are leaving their job in July?"

Coming up on the close of my first year as a #districtadministrator. It's a different level of responsibility, tension, and stress. As a previous #buildingadministrator for the past 20 years, I'd like to say "hats off" to all #principals, #assistantprincipals, and #deans. #Thanks. #edusky #edchat

Helpful stuff. "For young children, writing by hand is a uniquely integrative activity: It engages fine motor coordination, letter-sound awareness, & language development all at once..students need developmentally appropriate play-based strategies that meet them where they are."

Good ideas for supporting MS writers. "Reflection questions give teachers an understanding of how students view the writing process. This knowledge helps new teachers know which students may benefit from small group instruction and which students may need extra encouragement on writing days."

Something surprising is happening:

After a steep drop-off during the pandemic, youth drug use is *continuing* its remarkable decline—defying the predictions of many experts.

We spoke with researcher Richard Miech to get his take on the phenomenon.

With students showing demonstrated skills, it connects itself to standards based grading! Students showing what they know gives multiple opportunities to practice and improve on their learning- based on each individual student!

This is so true and a great reminder:

“Building genuine relationships with students fosters trust and a sense of belonging, making the classroom a space where everyone feels seen and valued.”

A2: I think it goes back to teaching digital citizenship and responsibility. It’s a valuable tool for teachers and students and having that foundational base is very important #EduSkyChat

A2: One way might be to use Ai to generate exemplars for students to critique. They could investigate. for example, whether the claims have substance or whether the assertions are plausible.

Another might be to take a generic AI generated product & adapt it to their own language/style. #EduSkyChat

A1: Students need solid people skills: talking, listening, working together, and rolling with the punches. I think the best way to teach that is through real-world experiences, teamwork, and a little bit of trial and error. The future belongs to those who can play well with others. #EduSkyChat

I like how you navigated the non-negotiable aspect with finding almost always the thing that can bend to create personalization. Works with adults too. #EduSkyChat
tomschimmer.bsky.social
A3: First, recognize that 'personalized' & 'individualized' are not the same.

Then, actively find places for authentic agency.

Not everything is negotiable but something almost always is, so the choices we allow for personalization allow a unique pathway to an outcome/standard. #EduSkyChat

A1. I don't think time is ever wasted teaching those soft skills like problem-solving, time management, critical thinking, and communication.

Give students the opportunity to work in groups, engage in problem based learning or try genius hour. #EduSkyChat
