Opening an American-style Tex-Mex restaurant in a European city with lots of American expats is basically a license to print money. Europeans are incapable of reproducing American food on their own.
A belief I hold, influenced by Iris Murdoch, is that when we make emotional or ethical mistakes we know exactly what we’re doing. We just distract or lie to ourselves as we do it.
That can be true of dining mistakes as well. I couldn’t resist a German burrito. It was even more horrid than expected.
