BREAKING: Our client Mario Guevara, an Emmy-winning journalist detained by ICE in retaliation for livestreaming law enforcement activity, will be deported tomorrow to El Salvador.

Mario and his family are being punished for his reporting. This cruelty is meant to stifle our free press.

We are deeply upset with Cascade PBS execs' decision to eliminate the news operation and lay everyone off. It's been wonderful to see the outpouring of support and anger folks have shown this week. If you want to share that anger with the bosses, we'd appreciate it. actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...

A terrible time for Seattle to lose another independent news source that has spent the last two decades holding the powerful accountable. Absolutely devastating.

It’s difficult to find the words to express how our unit is feeling right now, but we’ll take a stab at it: shocked, disappointed, angry, gutted. @cascadepbs.bsky.social’s choice to eliminate long-form written reporting is a massive loss for our community in a critical moment. tinyurl.com/LayoffFund

It's been a bad day! For now I'll just say I can't think of a worse time to have fewer reporters and editors on the job and that I'm very glad to have a union on our side.

Uuuugh. You can pitch "AI for nose hair removal" and have a billion dollars dumped on your head overnight, but perhaps the most important civic function in democratic politics is starving to death.

had to read the article to understand wtf was going on here which is that Meta is literally feeding Instagram pictures parents took of their teenage daughters to middle aged men as ads for Threads

“Meta has used back-to-school pictures of schoolgirls to advertise one of its social media platforms to a 37-year-old man, in a move parents described as “outrageous” and “upsetting.”

Meta has 100% stopped even *pretending* not to be astoundingly evil.

Every statistic about how bad the economy is getting is going to be buried or cooked by the end of the year.

Quarterly earnings reports shifting to semi-annual earnings will ensure private companies don’t inject reality too often by talking about declining sales, etc.
Exclusive | Trump Administration Cancels Annual Hunger Survey
The government has been measuring food insecurity since the mid-1990s, but now says the report has become “overly politicized.”

Former GU professor Andrea Brower was subjected to an investigation for her Palestine solidarity activism, but the charges were found to be unsubstantiated. Still, Brower felt the university was attempting to silence her. Read her resignation letter.

Teens calling Idaho's suicide hotline are being told they can't proceed with the conversation without parental consent. Many of the callers are then hanging up.

Idaho approved a strict parental consent law last year.

When a senior citizen in Bellingham emailed about not being able to afford utilities, a city official fed his email into ChatGPT and said “write a sympathetic response.”

“Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns so clearly and thoughtfully,” their reply read. “I hear your frustration.”
