Intro for new folks: I’m Lis, an artist & writer. I have 6yo Doombringer. I play Geoguessr a LOT & my handle is Pixelfish there too.

Story link: reactormag.com/blue-morphos...

Art:
A fantastical bird-human creature called a kinnara levitates a blue egg. The kinnara themselves is carved from stone and surmounted with a golden headdress. Lush greenery hangs around them, partially obscuring a stone wall containing niches and depictions of legendary Hindu deities. The Kinnara comes from Thai mythology and this specific one was inspired by a statue in San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum.

Digital painting created in Procreate. HumanMade. A stone stairway in a Croatian twin passes between buildings. Potted plants and shrubs lend a little hint of lushness to these shadowy stone streets. The walls are warm.

Digital painting painted in Procreate. HumanMade Snow blankets ground and a school bus forges through the chill pre-dawn, opening a door and beckoning. Tire tracks cut through the snow, which is drifted up at the sides of the roads.

A digital painting painted in Procreate. HumanMade. Lightly rippling waters in Yellowstone reflect banks of large conifers under an overcast sky. Birds fly overhead.

I need the Dems to explain why my texts and inbox are full of pleas purporting to be from James Carville, a person I and 99% of people younger than me (late GenX) do not care about & find to be out of touch.

Pritzker: "He said he was going after the worst of the worst. It's not going after the worst of the worst when you're just literally stopping children who happen to be brown & asking them for papers as if they're gonna have proof they're a citizen. Pull out your phones and film everything you see"

in recent years there's been this new attempt to portray being a soulless blogspam affiliate hack as something that requires serious effort and research in order to "find the best deals" (a ton of these are usually AI)
Google News screenshot of Amazon Prime Day Coverage that pretends they had to do research to "find the best deals"

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

if you work for a publication that does this and have any idea how much $$$ your outlet makes from affiliate sale commissions on prime day, DM or signal me: jason.404

also interested if you are a journalist who is asked to do these deal roundups as part of your job

The RIAA was suing teenagers. We had to sit through ⬇️ this shit anytime we wanted to watch a DVD. A whole generation shamed for using Limewire and torrents. Only for these silicone valley assholes to now find copyright infringement a necessary evil they shouldn’t have to answer for

Btw, I dig the triple anti name.

They actively lose votes. (Much like Palestine.)

None of them have been able to produce a single person who would vote Dem if only they hated trans people. No one has that as their single issue. Should Dems give the most airtime to trans rights instead of eg healthcare? No, that's not strategic. But they don't gain any votes by being transphobic.

You think you can offer up others deeply held principles to get power from…people who are only about power.

Well, that tracks. Power is your principle.

Human rights are ours.

That is why your mythical coalition will not form up around your power brokers. Because you fail to see our principles.
pixelfish.bsky.social
Maybe believe that entire swathes of progressives actually hold the value of caring about human rights…and you’ll see very swiftly how that becomes non-negotiable.

We aren’t dying on the hill of trans rights.

YOU are dying on the hill of sacrificing human rights.

Get it right.

NeoLiberals use the phrase “purity test” as a dog whistle for bigotry and open hatred for those seen as a threat to their power and influence.

If you are willing to throw away entire groups of people to protect your insular strategy that will only protect you instead of protecting everyone then I don’t want your leaders and I sure as hell don’t want to be associated with you.
talleststone.bsky.social
I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

ofc you can say that and in everyday language that's far more useful to say than whatever the correct taxonomical description is

but in terms of taxonomy a group has to be a single and complete branch of the tree, and "non-mammals" is not one, it's what remains of a tree if you remove a branch

it’s a wild fact, but this is correct, there is no actual scientific category that includes shark and trout but not humans

‘Six words or _fewer_.”
A meme. There’s a skull at the top, followed by the words ‘WRITE A HORROR STORY IN SIX WORDS OR LESS’

High five!

I watched Arrival by Denis Villaneuve right before getting pregnant with Doombringer and then Bladerunner 2049 while pregnant with Doom (and the fish kicks they let off during the big THX noises were a fav memory).

Two SF movies about parenthood.

Mine was Rocky which I haven’t seen, but the AI Google summary tried to tell me it was Star Wars which would be released three months later.

I DID see Star Wars 7x while my mum breastfed me a dark theatre. I was apparently a very quiet baby.

i think we should just do horoscopes based on what the number one movie at the box office was the day we were born, it seems more scientifically rigorous

Also put Mormon culture on the pile: when trying to get mainstream acceptance, they hewed conservative even though a lot of their stated ideals around communal property and taking care of the poor went the other way.

The traditional path to American Whiteness is throwing Black people under the bus. It worked for the Irish, it worked for southern Europeans (Italians, Greek, etc), and it gained Asian Americans “model minority” status.

So many people think that "ah you can't really tell an AI wrote this post or not!" is a gotcha.

Ok, let's say you're right. But if your post is shaped like an AI post, and your thoughts are shaped like AI thoughts, then the fact that there's no difference reflects rather poorly on you.
pixelfish.bsky.social
Yep, that’s what I’m fumbling towards explaining in the first bit.

Like the weirdos who bargain away rights don’t understand that the reason many folks are progressive is that is a value they believe in.

as kids; made you feel uncomfortable speaking Spanish. You know who embraced you most- Black students. Even as kids we recognized those who needed protection.
How do you grow up and turn towards those who oppressed you?
