Buddy, some of us have successfully avoided arrest by using physical force. I don’t think you really comprehend what happens if norms actually break. Right now you’re seeing cops treating white people how they treat black people and I’m saying they can only successfully do that with numbers.

But how does that either a) alter the outcome of an election or b) change the reality that they don’t have the men for meaningfully covering multiple areas with the kind of overwhelming force you’d need to forestall serious resistance?

So you don't think Trump could effectively meddle with elections in Minneapolis, a city of 500k people, when he has 20k-30k ICE agents on hand but you think he can pull it off nationally in nine months?

It would require different resources, radically different tactics, and a level of organization and discipline that they haven't shown so far. On top of that they have, at this point, nine months to both figure it out and deal with whatever shitstorm the summer brings.

And that "hundreds" is just "liberal cities in the US." If we're talking about actual poling places you'd need to cover thousands or tens of thousands of places for extended periods of time AND you'd need to have backup for the inevitable protests. You can't just drop tear gas and drive off here.

Because they don't have the men. ICE's actions depend almost entirely on overwhelming force, rapid backup, and hit-and-run attacks. They have something like 70% of their total force in Minneapolis right now.

How are they supposed to do that in literally hundreds of fixed locations at once?

to say that public opinion matters isn’t to say that everything will stop immediately. what it means is that the administration’s strategic options narrow considerably and their odds of meeting meaningful institutional resistance goes up.
