I just realized that WICKED is almost totally ripped-off from The Wizard of Oz and I can’t believe people aren’t talking about it.

They are not the same.

Twins hiring a manager who just fired in May because his team underperformed. What a way to build excitement.
Pohlads need to sell the team to someone who actually likes baseball and wants the team to succeed.

Just finished @rfkuang.bsky.social ‘s newest book, Katabasis. Just incredibly good. Biting satire of graduate school, and the toxicity of the cults of personality that often underscore the power relationships between faculty and student. But also a beautifully human story. I loved it.

Homer reading cleaning solution bottle saying to use in a well-ventilated room. Homer says to the bottle “Up yours, buddy!”

I now say that to rules on any household product.
what's the stupidest/randomest Simpsons quote that lives in your head rent free? Mine is the urge to say "you said go to bread" every time I am about to head to bed.

I am really enjoying that every post I've seen memorializing Robert Redford is referencing Sneakers, which makes sense because that movie is amazing. I'll be watching it tonight, as will most of the Bluesky posting public, apparently.

I’m a week or two late but I really loved Matt Fraction and @jorgejimenezart.bsky.social Batman #1. I don’t often collect Batman but these two are too good not to give it a read. I’m in for the whole run.
Also, so happy to see the return of the blue and the grey!!!

getting fired from your job because some dipshit student who missed their calling in the Stasi filmed you talking about gender in a class about gender
I agree but this case is even worse: it appears that the detailed course description* explicitly mentions that it will explore how gender and sexuality are depicted in YA literature.

*As the reddit poster mentions, there's some confusion and possible misreporting of which course she's teaching.

Just finished Fraction and Zdarsky’s Sex Criminals and it’s a hilarious story with a lot of heart. It reminds me of Chew in that the premise seems like it could grow stale but it just never does. I enjoyed the hell out of this book.

Just finished @rfkuang.bsky.social ‘s novel, Babel. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s thoughtful, intense, insightful, and thought provoking. This book leaves a mark. Now all that’s left is to read everything else she’s written.

This is a vital message: one of the larger reasons BlueSky is refreshingly free of alt-right shitlords is because in the early days we made a gentleperson’s agreement to starve these fuckos out and it worked. No likes, no quotes, no engagement. They got bored and left. Please keep the Old Ways.
Vice-President JD Vance confirms he has joined BlueSky.

Great thread
Let's talk about these two department store owners: brother and sister Louis Bamberger and Caroline Bamberger Fuld. From Newark, New Jersey.

They are random people, basically. But in the late 1920s, with fascism taking over Europe, they made a choice that profoundly changed the world: 🧵
