“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

11) The discussion about health care was useful PR, but covered up discussion over the power of the purse, which is fundamental. If the WH doesn't have to follow the law, it doesn't matter what you pass.

With the remaining approps bills + CR, Dems still could fight that fight. If they're smart

I would much rather the Secretary of Defense be obsessed with innovation in drone usage in the Ukraine war instead of chugging HGH and doing push-ups on social media.

If the bluesky power elite could use their outsized influence in the realm of cultural production to get the late Art Lown's album "Piper Oz the Hound" reissued on vinyl, I would appreciate it.

I see folks writing this a lot, but this shutdown fight revealed that the administration is willing and able to illegally disrupt payments, and they now have evidence that it is a highly effective strategy

Expect them to stop funds again during the January shutdown, and fight in court at every step
Notably, the deal funds Ag for the entire fiscal year so SNAP wouldn’t be an issue in a Jan 30 shutdown

Law & Order Star Wars

Dexter Jettster is found dead in his abandoned diner. A Coruscant detective near retirement and her droid partner navigate the city's dangerous post-revolution streets. A prosecutor with war trauma and a shrouded past builds a case that may bring down the fragile New Republic.

The shutdown is as much about recission and impoundment as it is about healthcare. If they weren't trying to use blatantly illegal (and in a rational reading, unconstitutional) impoundment to an unprecedented degree, the government would probably already be open.
Apparently Schumer's offer also included a legal guarantee of appropriations being spent as specified.
