My latest column is about how the UK, with its "sovereign" post-Brexit regulatory system, is becoming a dumping ground for toxic chemicals.
Brings a lump to the throat, this patriotic self-reliance, doesn’t it? Or perhaps to the breast, stomach or liver.

When you cut taxes on the rich, the rich get richer and the gains don’t trickle down. When you invest in the American people, the middle class expands and the economy grows. It’s that simple.

Amazon health clinics are here. Just remembering the good old days when I’d make jokes about crappy doctors offices being the McDonalds of healthcare. So it wasn’t all in my imagination.
Wow. After Amazon bought a chain of clinics: “former employees …said standard appointments went from being one hour to just 30 minutes… . The number of patients doctors were expected to see per day gradually increased from six or seven to more than a dozen.”

The Supreme Court has agreed to consider whether a US citizen is above the law – a proposition that, if affirmed, would destroy the moral, legal, and political foundations of the Court itself.

GOP billionaires rigged SCOTUS, and then killed Roe, student debt relief, affirmative action, and legalized discrimination against LGBTQ people.

Now they’re deciding on protecting hate speech and misinformation on social media.

Judicial reform isn’t “radical” — it’s necessary.

Heard in line at the market today- Old white man 1 …”blah blah and they said on the news..” Old white man 2 “Oh no, stop.” Old white man 1 “No really, go online and look it up..” Old white man 2- “No I can’t. The wife won’t let me watch Fox News anymore or go online because it makes me too angry.”

Just casually locked my car doors while waiting in a parking lot. Nothing like looking up and seeing the stalker you had removed from your place of work for harassment of a young woman glaring at you. No need for anymore coffee this morning. I know there’s no point in calling police. So here I am.

Exactly so.
I'm just staggered by how much of this is just appeasement in advance. Not even the slightest effort to push back. It reads like they enjoyed figuring out how to disqualify authors.

What's happened tonight so far:

→ Dems flipped NY03, George Santos' congressional seat.
→ Dems also secured the majority in the Pennsylvania House, defending a legislative seat.

Not over! We're also watching a big minimum wage vote on the West Coast. boltsmag.org/whats-on-the...

GE boasted $7 billion in profit in 2023. So it must have paid a lot in federal taxes, right?

If you guessed $1, you’d still be high. In fact, GE got a *refund* of $423 million.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged for the rich.

Astoria Park, Queens, during this the biggest snowstorm in New York City in two years. Kids sledding, dogs frolicking, Amtraks heading to and from Penn Station over the Hell Gate Bridge, DSNY workers keeping things clear. I am taking today as a much needed reminder to slow down.
