Imagine a British PhD student having to write entire thesis in fluent Chinese. Deliver talks & network at Chinese conferences and Chinese dominated social media. Without any support. Weird? That's a norm for every academic not born in an Anglophone country. And it's not treated as a crisis. 🤔

Woah!

Ontario passed a law starting Jan 2026 that it is illegal for companies to ghost you.

If you have interviewed for a job they are legally required to inform you if they hire someone else or close the position.

The law also requires salary transparency on listings and disclosing use of AI

I like how Barnett Newman's Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue being vandalised implies that someone was in fact afraid of red, yellow, and blue

If there is a negotiated deal here somewhere - and I don't think there is - it almost certainly would take the form of land-for-security: Ukraine gets an army and EU membership in exchange for giving up the Donbass to Russia.

But 'land for fuck you, that's what' is not a deal and has never been.

As a business major: part of the function of a business is as a place of employment to provide jobs to people. If your business can't pay employees adequately, then it's incapable of fulfilling a critical role in the economic engine.
Gee, maybe you shouldn't open/own a business if you can't afford to pay your staff a living wage.

Remember that McDonald's corporate is a real estate company--they make money from buying land, building the restaurant, then collecting rent from the franchisee.

The restaurant itself serves to generate revenue to pay rent.
Not ONE mention of the word "profit" in that article.
LOTS of breathless concern about beef prices and salaries from McD's execs!
But not even ONE SENTENCE bothering to reference the ever-increasing net profits that the corporation enjoys.

I have a fairly expensive closet, but I realised that other than a pair of shoes, I haven't bought any new clothes since 2021, I think, because the old ones wore out (I have bought a number of items just because I wanted to try new styles)
Don't just think about the price. Consider how much you'll love wearing the garment, which will be about finding a manufacturer that produces things to your taste. A $100 hoodie worn for a decade is cheaper than a $40 hoodie you replace in a year.

As usual, the key is to buy less, buy better.

Really seeing once again, it seems, that the real divide in the Democratic coalition is not left/lib/moderate or anything like that.

It's the fight/no-fight divide. And the 'fight' dems are the ones winning elections.

Greece has universa heathcare but it’s common to bribe doctors for faster/better care
eternal fucking pet peeve of mine is americans posting maps of how "the rest of the world" has universal healthcare but literally 40-60% of those countries the programs are so piecemeal, understaffed, and underfunded that they might as well not exist
