In my book I wrote about research from NYU’s Eric Knowles and others into the “minority collusion” fear: that White Republicans in particular have a bizarre idea that non-Whites act collectively against Whites.

It's so fucking convenient that they get to "fear for their lives" anytime they want to absolve themselves of anything and when we actually fear for our lives because of them and do anything a scared person would do it's justification for our death.

This Upton Sinclair quote never misses

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.”
But can anyone tell me what this bit means? “For too long, those fluent in the good grammar of civility have deployed decorum to mask agendas of cruelty.”

Don't worry guys, this is totally OK because Israel is not committing genocide (heavy sarcasm)
Israel says it will suspend several humanitarian groups, including Doctors Without Borders, in 2026 for failing its new vetting rules for groups working in Gaza. Some international organizations have said that Israel’s rules are arbitrary and could endanger staff.

I couldn't stop thinking about this article last night, and how we're going to have to introduce a cutoff date where studies published after said date are subject to additional scrutiny or are deemed outright unfit for citation due to LLM usage

AI Is Inventing Academic Papers That Don't Exist -- And They're Being Cited in Real Journals
Academic articles from authors using large language model are creating an ecosystem of fake research that threatens human knowledge itself.

From janitors and Wall Street bankers, to lawyers and food delivery drivers. Much has been made of the cross-class nature of Trump’s strongest support. That the same is true of his strongest opposition is far less discussed.

I'm teaching about Gaza on Monday. I assigned this article. You should read it if you haven't, because the trauma it describes is unbearable and we all need to sit with it.

It's getting pretty disheartening that I have to center my IRL conversations regarding ICE solely around their treatment of citizens because so many people are OK with what the org is doing to immigrants

one thing we need to do as a society is treat all fraud or theft over $100 million or so as a potential capital crime, with the possibility of execution for offenders.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

There is a part of me that's genuinely surprised the admin hasn't begun counting incarcerated peoples towards the employment numbers. I thought for sure they'd try that bullshit at some point to give the numbers a boost

Platner is really the perfect combination of conservative confidence and liberal naivety. Watching his Reason interview, it's obvious he has the white man's natural "of course I can do this" attitude even before looking into what he's doing, and then becoming very regretful.

We've known for YEARS that there are disparities in the effectiveness of facial recognition tech used on white vs nonwhite skin. DHS using it to determine someones citizenship status is done with the expectation of glitches and the knowledge that those glitches will allow the deportation of citizens
