As well as his more recent work on climate sensitivity. See here: www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/. He finds it to be higher than what has conventionally been determined (by e.g. IPCC).

If you aren't already, it would be good to follow @leonsimons.bsky.social.

That's why I addressed only your question about PPM of CO2. "Simplifying here by looking only at CO2 and no feedbacks."

The climate system is complex, with lots of heat stored in the ocean, and the effects of changes in aerosols, clouds and surface albedo involved, for example.

We’d also love to know what happened to the $50,000 Tom Homan allegedly took from FBI agents.

Luckily, we’ve sued for the receipts.

That level is whatever the peak PPM level will happen to be. (Simplifying here by looking only at CO2 and no feedbacks.)

When the PPM flat-lines, the temperature stays the same. From that point, removal of CO2 by natural or other means reduces the temperature.

Keep it in the ground is the start.

All current approaches to ending aviation's contribution to climate change are off track. Offsets & SAF won't do it. Taxes & levies are minimally effective.

The real, direct solution is to regulate the flow of kerosene, ratcheting it down to reach zero in 10-15 years.

Reduce demand to fit that.

"'I see the city of Dubrovnik in three years' time with happy citizens, good tourism numbers and as a living city,' said Frankovic. 'Everyone will be happy – but it will take some hard decisions.'" /3

Mayor "Frankovic's moves mark a rare turning point in mass tourism: a city rejecting tourism dollars for the sake of its citizens. In an era when most destinations chase growth at any cost, Dubrovnik is making the opposite bet: that quality, not quantity, will define its future." /2

"Mass tourism is not a win-win," says Dubrovnik's mayor Mato Frankovic. "At the beginning you feel like you are winning, but at the end, actually you are losing the quality of service and quality of life. It is just a losing game. So we overturned everything." /1

This was literally my exact comment to my partner (substituting "they're" for "we're," & "them" for "us") after watching the news last night - b/c that was literally the argument Trump was making, on the news.

These are training exercises designed to get the Nat. Guard used to fighting civilians.

Governor Newsom has a bill on his desk to hold utilities accountable, and get them to stop passing along their dark money campaigns to everyday Californians.

Is he going to side with utilities, or side with the public and help lower electricity rates?

Greta once again shows true leadership.

As opposed to our political 'leaders' complicit in genocide.

Greta Thunberg has just been released and she is back on the warpath, exactly like our leaders should be.

Israel will never silence her or the billions who oppose them.

A good first step. I hope it will inspire other provinces, states and ultimately national governments and regions (the E.U.) to follow suit. That would make it fully effective.

Wow, this is the first I've heard of this! What great news from Quebec - tackling designed obsolescence.

There was some talk in climate circles in 2018 about tackling this, but it fell to the wayside as more urgent crises came up.

UPDATE: We’ve filed for a temporary restraining order in our case to block the Trump-Vance admin from unlawfully firing federal workers during the government shutdown.

We refuse to let President Trump treat civil servants and their livelihoods as political tools.
democracyforward.org
We’re suing the Trump-Vance administration for threatening to conduct mass firings of federal employees if the government shuts down tonight.

Using people’s livelihoods as a bargaining chip is both cruel and illegal. That’s why we’ve joined forces with unions to protect these vital jobs.

Interesting-looking new article into how social practices in the football industry are flight-intensive.

There's been much research on how that's the case within academia, but I feel like we've been overlooking other sectors... doi.org/10.1080/2331...

This is not sustainable.

2025 cruise season in Portland:
110 ships
2026 cruise season in Portland:
144 ships

No oversight, no transparency, no knowledge of costs. Just more & more pollution.
