PANTHEON: DOGE “is falling well short of its goal to slash federal spending, reducing at least one major near-term downside risk for the economy.

“.. real-time data .. suggest federal spending has been roughly 10% higher since President Trump was inaugurated than in the same period a year earlier.”

He and another Yale professor, Jason Stanley, who studies similar topics at Yale, are moving to Canadian universities, a result of the political and academic climate here.

"Republican lawmakers have been reduced to DOGE bystanders. Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC), on the Veterans Affairs Committee, was asked whether he could guarantee that DOGE cuts would not affect veterans’ benefits and care. 'No, I can’t guarantee anything,' he said."

What Fresh Hell Do We Have Today?
Sure, we’ve abandoned Ukraine, launched a trade war with our neighbors, and insulted close allies. But at least we’re screwing over our veterans, too.

This tracks with everything I've covered for years. It's not in people's heads: America is getting more antisemitic, and that starts with the young. When people focus on antisemitic politicians, they need to grasp that in a democracy, those politicians are downstream from voters.
Explicit antisemitic attitudes are now much more common among young voters - 18 year old registered voters are now ~5x more likely to say that they have an unfavorable view of the Jewish people than 65 year olds.

Greg Sargent interview with former top DHS official reveals that Trump is taking funds away from enforcing laws against actual crimes like child sex abuse materials so he can prioritize going after immigrants.
Notable: Former top DHS official Deborah Fleischaker tells me on the pod that current ICE officials fear Trump's demand for higher arrests will redirect operations away from serious criminals to make Trump happy.

She explains this well. See this exchange:
