Really? The hysterical Islamophobia post 9/11 kicked it all off, and the through-line is pretty straight. Trump launched his political career by lying that Barack Obama was not a U.S. Citizen but a Kenyan Muslim. A lot of white people loved it, and a white nationalist movement took off.
I'm unable to process how we got from 9/11 to this.

Today we gather to honor the memory of a white nationalist who spent his days fomenting sectarian hate and encouraging violence against minority groups. Only by doing this do we teach them that it's not okay to peddle in bigotry and misinformation.
