It's as if going all in on car dependent sprawl was a terrible idea and now we live with bidding wars for basic "perks" such as walkability, leaving those without deep pockets financially obligated to cars, so they can access more affordable housing.

What a cluster.

"If ranked among countries, the global fleet of SUVs would be the world's fifth largest emitter of CO2, exceeding the emissions of Japan and various other major economies," said Apostolos Petropoulos, an energy modeller with the IEA. www.bbc.com/news/article...
With the world heating up, why are more SUVs being sold?
Despite dire predictions of climate breakdown, more Sports Utility Vehicles are being spotted on, and off, the roads.

This isn’t a sustainable way to view cities. Cities are vibrant places where people can gather, shop, go to events, visit, and, most importantly, LIVE! Coincidentally this is the topic of our next street film Walkable USA: reconnectrochester.org/programs/roc...
if you cant go in to the office 3 days a week then you really can't complain when cities are hollowed out. cities are places where ppl work and network. getting rid of that makes cities useless
And it's usually something like "but that's not what the literal DNC does!" as if I don't know, as someone who has worked on Dem campaigns, sometimes in conjunction with the DNC what they do. So I'm going to be very specific here: this is the DNC being shitty: www.nytimes.com/2025/11/12/u...

Great article by @keawilson.bsky.social that digs into the fundamental principle of Vision Zero. Too many people think zero traffic deaths is impossible but it's been done and it has worked! Not just in Europe either; Jersey City, Edina...Hoboken has gone EIGHT YEARS without fatalities.
Wrote about Waymo's co-CEO acknowledging that even she thinks traffic violence is inevitable, what's wrong with aiming for "fewer" road deaths rather than demanding zero, and the way automobility limits our imagination and our empathy.
The False 'Trolley Problem' At the Heart of the Autonomous Vehicle Debate — Streetsblog USA
Waymo said it has a "plan" for when one of the company's cars kills someone. But we should be planning for a world when no car kills anyone — autonomous or not.

Our Costco is near a community college and a major hospital. A high rise on top would make a lot of sense.
This breaks some people’s brains.

In most cities, Costco stores fuel sprawl & car dependency.

In Vancouver, our full-sized downtown Costco has residential towers above & a skytrain station next door. LOTS of customers don’t drive to it.

We live a block from it. We call it “the convenience store.”
