Adult Mammoths had one natural enemy–Neanderthals. This Neanderthal scraper in our collection was used for preparing large mammoth hides. The Mousterian style of manufacture reveals it to be 120,000-200,000 years old.

This episode covers the MAHA grift BS. Glad to hear of JP Sears tanking. And a reminder that so many “wellness” wankers didn’t vote (from what was expressed personally to me, dampens their ascendant auras and they’re “above it all.”). I’ve followed this podcast since Covid. Grateful for their work.

THIS. Why I’ve been screaming into the wind the last several elections to folks who think they’re part of the (white supremecist) “club.” They use you, loathe you, and laugh at you. I grew up in the white power culture. What I absorbed, picking up conversations since a kid would make your toes curl.
A reminder for those who are not aware: "remigration" is the process of deporting all non-white people from a country. It includes citizens and is, by definition, ethnic cleansing.

And to be clear: this is not fake. I just screenshot it myself.

This is so tragic and unnecessary. My prayers go out to her family and loved ones.
Sarah Beckstrom's ex-boyfriend told NBC News she dreamed of becoming an FBI special agent.

She didn't want to deploy to D.C.

"She hated it. She cried about it."

But she started visiting monuments and museums and started enjoying it.

May she rest in peace.

The slain soldier’s former boyfriend recalled her empathy and generosity. “She doesn’t even have to know you and she’ll do anything for you,” he said.

Communities need used-book shops.

As the trends in our world are increasingly standardized and entrenched by "predictive" technologies that stifle innovation and reduce human actions into economic categories...

We need a full range of possibilities for readers and communities to explore and share.

This is fascinating research. And why we need science, and also, as the article notes, finally deeply listening to the oral histories of the Indigenous. It’s all there if we stop overlaying our cultural world views atop it.
How Easter Island's giant statues were transported remained unsolved for decades. Physics, morphological analysis and a comprehensive 3D map now show the moai, or statues, were "walked" upright across the landscape using principles of lateral oscillation. buff.ly/Lj0PMep

The military has a duty to refuse unlawful orders, but Congress has a duty to remove from office a president and secretary who would issue such orders. There is something off about members of Congress talking about the former while refusing to say the latter, the part that's actually their job here.

A study of 42 Head Start centers reveals widespread mistreatment among early child care staff, driving stress, depression and burnout.

And that’s especially troubling because kids thrive when the people caring for them are supported and healthy.
A quarter of early child care educators in Colorado reported mistreatment from co-workers
Younger and more diverse teachers reported higher rates of bullying and discrimination by their colleagues. This can also affect the kids they care for.
