The only reason is cruelty. These are not jobs taken away from citizens. These are jobs either not being filled, or can only be filled, by people overseas.

They are doctors & medical professionals in rural communities.
They are scientists.
They are technicians.
They are members of the clergy.

The rule change making an H1-B visa cost $100,000 is so unfathomably devastating.

It already costs around $5000. With legal fees, it runs about $20K. I know this because we just hired someone with an H1-B because their humanitarian parole was revoked and we had to go another route.

The CBC is reminding us that condemning violence without confronting racist ideology is hollow.

And that honoring someone who denied systemic racism, mocked Black leaders, and pushed white nationalist conspiracy theories isn’t about healing, it’s actually about creating a martyr out of a myth.

It’s a window into the chasm between how Black and white Americans view race.

For too many white people, racism is still not a dealbreaker. They’ll denounce (some) violence but protect the worldview that fuels it.

I know we keep focusing on Colbert and Kimmel as we should, but we also need to remember there are hundreds of people who work for these shows who also just lost their jobs because of this bullshit, and most of them are probably not millionaires.

something about the brazenness of firing Kimmel one day after Colbert’s standing ovation at the Emmys is really getting to me. they know how badly this played for CBS with the industry and the public, and it’s chilling to watch them confidently declare that they simply don’t have to care about that
