Eavesdropping on 8yo and three friends eating dinner at our kitchen table. One friend just asked “are we still kids?” 8yo answers with a deep sigh that sounds like the weight of the world: “we are.”

You could just talk about Jim Crow. I promise you, there's no need to leave America's shores to talk about life in a fascist state

Under the Third Reich, most Germans generally lived in the law-bound normative state, while Jews and other disfavored people were victims of the arbitrary and violent prerogative state.

The dual state is characterized by the facade of normalcy obscuring the fact of an authoritarian state.
The “dual state” theory was invented to describe Nazis. The Supreme Court could take us there.
Authoritarianism—but make it look like the rule of law.

Truly the wildest shit is happening as we approach rapid collapse with Trump ready to circumvent court orders to deluge US cities in troops for the “crime” of disagreeing with him—and normies are hardly aware of it

No. They are powerful, violent white supremacists. We need to keep talking about THAT.

This current American presidential administration is run by people who are quite obviously mentally ill, and we need to start talking about that.

Another call for sources: I'm reporting on pediatric Covid vaccine access. If you've had trouble finding pediatric doses in stock, or if your child was turned away, I'd love to hear from you: [email protected].

Thanks to those who replied to my pregnancy callout; that story will be out soon.

We can’t fight stigma while selling stigmatizing policies.

Viability limits are fetal protection laws that collude with personhood in criminal codes. What is more ANTI abortion than that?!

We have NEW research on pregnancy-related prosecutions in the first two years after Dobbs, and there are surely more cases.

They show us that giving rights to fertilized eggs, embryos, and fetuses paves the way for people to be ARRESTED and PUNISHED for all pregnancy outcomes — beyond abortion.
In the two years after Dobbs, prosecutors initiated at least 412 cases charging people with crimes related to pregnancy, pregnancy loss, or birth. Prosecutors criminalized 31 people who experienced a pregnancy loss in the 2 years after Dobbs. Pregnancy related prosecutions happened in 16 states. These were the top 3: Alabama, Oklahoma, and South Carolina. Most cases involve allegations of substance use during pregnancy - 399/412

Most cases began in a medical setting - 264/412

Most cases involved the family policing system - 217/412

it may feel a little like homework, but i genuinely think people should read the lincoln-douglas debates to see what the practical politics of anti-slavery looked like in an environment where the public was neutral to hostile to the question of emancipation

I love how Jenn and the podcast is centering late discovery in the later abortion conversation and how you are calling out “abortion advocates” for intentionally/unintentionally adding fuel to fire in the stigma heap.
