It's infuriating that local council services discussions have become all about rates, especially that truly most dumbarse of dumbarse complaint of "Why have my rates gone up so much when everything is broken and expensive to fix?"

People, for a species so supposedly intelligent, we're thick as shit

Hey, so it is a month until Kākācon. It will be great to see people there the day before @kawaiicon.bsky.social Thu 6 Nov at 1345 at Zealandia.

There are no schedules just a great opportunity for hallwaycon chats outside while having a walk & seeing some birds.

Turns the answer was nothing. But I checked the alignment in the wrong gear oops (Alpine hub gears)
I've got to figure out what I did wrong with my ebike gears while putting the wheel back on yesterday

This we call a propaganda piece and not actual journalism
No we dont nor ever will need State Highway 1 as 4 lanes to Northland. Ironically showing why Labour Day was a problem also shows why NZTA's analysis is junk. The highway like mall parking lots only get clogged 4x a year
2+1 road is enough
‘The benefits are huge’: $18b Northland Expressway set to transform road travel
Labour Day traffic showed how travel times could be reduced with the new corridor.

I appear to have spoken to a reporter who took seriously the gravity of NZ's science crisis

does anybody have a newsroom pro subscription so that I can learn what other choice phrases I used on the record?

Winner of top science prize blames ‘batshit’ Budget for brain drain
Dr Samuel Mehr says the Government values science, but their ‘idiotic’ approach to funding it will cost them their best and brightest.

Also worth noting that our worst paid nurses in New Zealand, the ones whose pay equity claims were thrown in the trash by this government aren't able to join the strike today. But remember that primary health care, aged care and Māori health service nurses stand in solidarity with the strike.

Heavy Rail only?
10% of the cost of RoNS with a Benefit Cost Ratio of 10:1 factoring land use

Add in light rail for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and we hit 40% but they are 100 year assets (roads are 50) and still return BCRs of 10 when factoring land use
All but 2 RoNS are BCR of <1

That was more dramatic than expected. We got disturbed by police at midnight, looking for someone. Had to move the kids inside because they were all a bit freaked out after that.

Ōtautahi fam: a favour, if I might ask. I find myself in possession, not of a fortune, but a very sweet rescue dog in want of a not-tiny yard (one's own yard being such), fenced, wherein he might run around for some wee time and mayhap not meet other dogs...1/2
