Half of Scotland goes along with the Disneyland vision of itself so you can't blame the doc really, it's what we do
A vision that recognises our shared British values. Regardless of how we say the word ‘bath’, whether we wear a suit or a kilt, or where our parents or grandparents came from.

We meet our challenges with unity, decency, and determination, as we have done for centuries.

Ambulance has finally taken her to hospital
This is deeply troubling.

That this should be happening when a former human rights lawyer is Prime Minister…

"The British empire invented and commited crimes so heinous people had to invent new words for them" is a surprisingly large category 👀
The word dystopia was first coined by John Stuart Mill to describe the British governments rule in Ireland

Robin Ince reveals to last night’s audience at a recording of Infinite Monkey Cage that the BBC has forced him to resign over his support of trans people

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

This is a really appalling editorial error on BBC Question Time

"Apparently one in three children don't speak English as a first language, why does this matter?"

Chair says "have English as a second language"

Caption changes the meaning entirely
"Don't speak fluent English"

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

I do find this stuff fascinating in so much as you do end up wondering "why did Keir Starmer want to be an MP?" Let alone the thornier question of "why does he want to be Prime Minister?"
From Patrick Maguire's sub stack. Says an awful lot, and none of it good.

It is a very good thing Tom Harris is no longer an MP. What a foul attitude to take to young people taking an interest in politics and the House of Commons making space to accommodate them, as any serious democracy should. "This lot"? A sublime encapsulation of the bitter ageism blighting politics.
The hatred the youth parliament gets is just so out of proportion. Can these people hear themselves. It’s creepy.

Genuinely such an interesting long thread on why these suits look crap and yet how a particular type of crap suit has become a cultural signifier for right-wing men.
I can answer this. I interviewed Peterson's tailor a few years ago, although the interview was never published because I fell behind on work. Here is the story of this suit. 🧵
What is happening with this outfit?
