😞 so heartbreaking
We are saddened by the loss of Rob and Michele Reiner, legendary filmmakers who advocated for justice and documented rising Christian nationalism. Rob - a lifelong humanist - had a witty humor that was matched by his passion for social good. The Reiners will be greatly missed.

Exactly 13 years ago today I was in the Rockefeller Library at Brown when I heard the news of Sandy Hook in nearby Connecticut.

In 13 years, nothing has changed because our leaders are cowards and grifters.

And the current students at Brown now pay the price.

Agreed! Has quickly become one of
our favorite local spots.
Shout out to Ollie’s in Grant Park, the kind of corner store we’re always pining for on the urbanist internet. Won’t make any year-end best-of lists but just a solid neighborhood spot and good land use.

My mom has told me about this tragedy since I was a kid. She was about 4 when it happened, and it wasn’t in her parish. But it loomed very large among Catholic Chicagoans alive then.

Just realized that this is similar to what would happen if the characters of “It’s Always Sunny” were allowed to run the country.

#OnThisDay in 1859, Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species was first published.

Much of the original manuscript was used as scrap paper by Darwin's children. On the back of this painting of a house is an original manuscript page from Origin!

If I had to pick one word to describe the look of much of #GenAI imagery, it would be “pulchritudinous.” It’s uncannily gorgeous in an often slightly off-putting way, but clearly derived from an algorithmically collective sense of beauty and symmetry.

Everything is quite bonkers, so here’s a #shelfie. Lovely bookcase inherited from grandaddy-in-law’s Kentucky home. Not sure about provenance. It looks great on the first-floor landing. 📕

Just lock people up. Indefinitely. That’s pretty much their whole plan to make America better. Meanwhile, this poor woman’s family is actively missing their daughter, sister, mother, grandmother.

Our MAGA neighbors (very rare in these parts!) are finally putting their house on the market to move well out of the city. Honestly, it’s amazing they’ve stayed here in southeast Atlanta as long as they have.

Give to your local food bank!
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"
