Why does Erika Kirk dress and bejewel herself like late-stage Elvis? Do we know? She kits herself out like someone who was married to a way older man than Charlie. She reminds me of a senior on NYE at a NW Arkansas country club ~1995.

Times like these make me wish there were ghosts and hauntings.

Bari Weiss’s favorite people are going to be off-putting to the kinds of folks who watch CBS. My 89 y.o. mom is maybe not representative (her views align with her kids’), but she finds Erika to be “Kind of a tough egg!” (Not a compliment.) Pinker and Douthat will be weirdos. Bari herself: annoying.
All of that is to say: Pinker and Douthat sounding off on religion isn't new — they've both done so for a long time, and are influential figures.

But speaking as a religion reporter: for CBS to choose this particular pair for a major televised debate over "God" is…a choice I have questions about.

I’m looking for 100% Filipino people who are willing to submit a cheek swab test in hopes for a genetic match to my aunt, who is battling blood cancer. The registry for stem cells doesn’t have many Filipino people in it, and joining it could help many. Please share/reach out to me!

All the people running things come from the two worst groups in high school. It’s a bad mashup of the portion of the jocks who were homophobic lunkhead bullies and the nerds who were socially inept (yet annoyingly haughty and resentful). Worst of their archetypes.

One of the ways you can see this is driven by an industry looking for some way to make itself profitable? No one has shown any concern that students demonstrate basic competency with computers before enrolling (or graduating)—and, many do lack that.
It’s been fun while it lasted: “Purdue University will begin requiring that all of its undergraduate students demonstrate basic competency in artificial intelligence starting with freshmen who enter the university in 2026.”

Every time I read about hooligans, their jobs are listed as “painter and decorator,” and this rings so funny in the US, because it conjures up an entirely different (much less performatively masculine) stereotype here.

I have to remind myself, “Roofers. It’s like a group of white roofers.”

I 💯 agree with this. Positioning good things, like childcare and paid leave and a robust social safety net, to *maybe* increasing birth rates means we’ll lost those things when they don’t raise rates. And they still position women’s reproductive labor as the only solution.

I hate these “summit“ things that bring together folks like this (such as the NYT one, aside from Halle Berry, who’s okay by me)? They being out the worst, yielding up arrogant, uniformed pronouncements from dorks who know little about the world outside their own (tiny) bubbles. Bah!
i get madder about it every time i read this dude pretend that going to the movies is some elitist coastal affectation only the privileged few get to enjoy when it’s one of the most widely accessible ways for pretty much anyone to have a fun night out

Of note for Detroit-area folks: The presence of Jim Farley of Ford and Antonio Filosa of Stellantis (the latter of whom seems like he wants desperately to escape, and his PR people should have warned him). Mary Barra of GM sent a (pro-Trump?) plant manager. Rep. Lisa McClain is a bad banana.
Ever mindful of the visuals, he gathers a giant group of old white people to surround him and support him while he spews his vile racist rants.
Trump, continued: "What the Somalian people have done to Minnesota is not even believable. It’s not even believable. And a lot of it starts with the governor. A lot of it starts with Barack HUSSEIN Obama, because that’s when people started coming in... They want to kiss our country good night."

RFK, Jr.’s whole head has taken on odd, Barry Bonds-like proportions in a *very short* number of years, way fewer than the period of comparison used for Bonds. He also does nothing halfway.

Seems germane for health policy if he’s injecting anabolic steroids linked to mood and reasoning disorders.

He was second-to-last in his high school class (bootstraps apparently lost on the bus or something), AND, despite that abysmal display of non-effort and non-merit, his dad gave him $25k to start his business at age 19. As all white Midwestern 80s dads were prone to do 🙄.
We have to talk about how this glorification of overwork is driving care downstream.

To compete, men are incentivized to dump care onto women in their families. And women in privileged positions are then incentivized to push care onto others more vulnerable than them.
