One final word: Portuguese Bend / Mariineland/ Trump Golf Course is miles away from PVE, close to San Pedro. There's ample agricultural land there. Not in PVE.

I teach "Mapping, Space, and Power" starting tomorrow. This 1942 LAT map came into my head from my grad school days and I spent hours reviving an old hard drive to find it. I can't believe it isn't *everywhere* in lit about understanding the power of maps but it is surprisingly hard to find online.

SHOCK CELL PHONE VIDEO: Renee Good's final words to her murderer: “That’s fine dude, I’m not mad at you.”

ICE agent Jonathan Ross after shooting and killing her seconds later: “Fuckin’ bitch.”

So when authorities say “she tried to run over an officer,” that is not a neutral description. It is a claim of intent that can be used to justify lethal force after the fact.

When the state kills first and invents the threat afterward, it is not policing, it is death squad behavior. /end

The issue at stake in 1686 was whether the king was bound by the law.
How are we back here again?
In The New Republic, historian Holly Brewer compares the Court's decision to Godden v. Hales, a 1686 case affirming that James II was above the law – which was only repudiated when James II was overthrown in the Glorious Revolution. newrepublic.com/article/1833...

If a president signs a criminal law passed by Congress and another president violates that law, what sense does it make to immunize the latter president?

I can see an argument for immunity if Congress overrode a veto

But voluntarily signing a law seems to be a waiver of immunity arguments

This formulation is popular: contrasting SCOTUS' intolerance of race as an admissions factor with SCOTUS' tolerance of race as a detention factor. There are, in fact, doctrinal, historical, and logical distinctions between the positions, that one could use to dismiss this comparison.

But...
/1
"Harvard can't use race as a factor in admissions, but ICE can use race as a factor in detentions" is a retrenchment essentially to a pre-Civil War understanding of the Constitution. It's vanishingly few steps removed from "Latinos have no rights which the white man is bound to respect."

Federal appeals normally take over 2 YEARS, start to finish.

Here, the circuit court moved heaven and earth and produced its unanimous 61-page order, affirming the district court, less than 3 WEEKS after the district court's.

The Supreme Court just nuked it without a syllable of explanation.
The Supreme Court's ruling brushed aside, with no reasoning from the court, the district court's 52-page order and the circuit court's 61-page order affirming it.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court — over the objection of Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson — allows the Trump administration’s racial profiling of people working certain types of jobs in its immigration raids during litigation.

Imagine Earth 2, where SCOTUS not only determines that political gerrymandering is unconstitutional, but also determines that the all or nothing allocation of state electoral college votes is unconstitutional.

You say its been correct for over 200 years? Then give me back the 2dA jurisprudence

So there’s “good government,” like the kind referred to in the Declaration of Independence and that was explicitly identified as a goal in the Constitution’s Preamble

And there’s no government, where you’re on your own

What do you call a government that aims to harm and even kill its citizens?

Why is the stock market high, and the overall economy mixed, in the face of all these trade wars and government-generated uncertainty?

A big part of the answer is a massive boom in AI datacenter construction, so much it outweighs consumer spending. If that turns out to be an AI bubble… watch out.
The AI infrastructure build-out is so gigantic that in the past 6 months, it contributed more to the growth of the U.S. economy than /all of consumer spending/

The 'magnificent 7' spent more than $100 billion on data centers and the like in the past three months *alone*
