The Victor Sidel and Barry Levy Award for Peace is awarded to an APHA member who has made outstanding contributions to preventing war and promote international peace. The award draws attention to the profound health consequences of war and what public health workers can do to help prevent war and promote international peace.

The award was endowed by two past presidents of APHA, Victor W. Sidel, MD, and Barry S. Levy, MD, MPH, who have edited books, written papers and spoken widely on war and public health.

Prof. Hagopian reports a process that included an anonymous complaint and a 40 minute zoom meeting, "with no written charges provided" then expulsion and banning from meetings "without investigation, witness interviews, or (an) appeal process."

Let me get this straight: Link, a Black user, got banned for calling out the Bluesky CEO for following a racist. That’s not a good look, especially given Bluesky’s historical treatment of Black users here on bluesky.

To many, the notion that the “able-bodied” must work sounds reasonable on its face. But in reality, work requirements don’t ­meaningfully boost employment.

And for people with invisible disabilities that can make work extremely challenging, the framework can unfairly cast them as lazy.
