Anyway from now on we can all legitimately call Reform the "Black Shirts" - given they're flogging them to their actual members.

What an own goal!

Geddit?
It takes a special kind of right-wing British political party to literally sell black shirts.

Are you going to tell them?

Or shall I?

This is why nothing ever sticks.

It's a cult like, Dunning Krugeresque faith system that attracts highly opinionated people who have "decided already" that they are right and who "believe what they see" rather than acquainting themselves with facts.

Reform is a (bad) mood and not a political party in the traditional sense.

Its followers don't care about facts. They care about their beliefs.

No amount of fact checking will work and their critics need to adjust to that.

You cannot defeat delusion with reason.

Diane, have you seen the @rethinkecon.bsky.social report ‘Is Economics Education Fit for the 21st Century?’ (published last year)

It offers solid data on the shortcomings of the econ teaching in the U.K. Ha-Joon was actively involved in the project.

The French government just gave Putin a magnificent gift: It will ignore the ICC's arrest warrant for Netanyahu because "Israel is not a signatory to the ICC." But neither is Russia! So, is Putin in the clear too? Or is this another case of different rules for "our" bastards?

I wrote about the weaponisation of Captain Tom - with uncharacteristic caution - at the time for @bylinetimes.bsky.social - it wasn't just his family that was using his legacy. It was the government too - who were desperate to associate the pandemic with the war.

What makes me sad and cross about that event is that ordinary people believed the spin and dutifully sent in their own precious clothing coupons to help Princess Elizabeth get a dream wedding dress. We are told they were all returned but the logistics would have been enormous

Daily Mail trotting out the old "austerity wedding" thing again. That was done deliberately (of course) because rationing was on going and the Windsors didn't want to look bad.

The wedding in fact cost about £1 million in 2024 prices and was a very lavish affair.
