recently discovered that wikipedia volunteers have a hilariously high bar for what constitutes "unusual death"
Why Wikipedia editors have deleted entries from the “List of unusual deaths”: “hippos are extremely dangerous and very aggressive and there is nothing unusual about hippos killing people” “the man was working on the toilet, making his death inherently less strange than if he had been using it” “no longer an unusual or unique occurrence” regarding impalement by beach umbrella “being hit by multiple motorcycles in a race is not an unusual death” “fatalities involving objects or animals being launched into oncoming traffic are considered commonplace” regarding a Canadian couple’s fatal collision with a “flying bear”

The thing i loved most about Joe Nickell was that he took the claims he investigated seriously and genuinely. He never dismissed out of hand. As a result, he discovered many new phenomena. Nothing paranormal, but all fascinating nonetheless.

I’ve never had Covid, or I’ve only had an asymptomatic case. (Are those still a thing?) I wear an n95 in public and i don’t isolate. I travel abroad, go to concerts with screaming fans, museums with quiet fans🙂 and generally live my life.

If someone wants to wear a mask or avoid indoor gatherings, who cares? "Evermaskers" are a small number of people with zero institutional power and aren't causing harm to anyone else. This is an obvious "look at these weirdos" hit piece disguised as an empathic slice-of-life feature.

I’m so sorry I had to get this out of my system
Gonzo is the guy you meet when you transfer to the big state uni after two years at the local rural community college and it's pretty overwhelming and you don't know anyone so you randomly join a film club on campus (cmon Gonzo has a letterbox, we all know it) and everyone seems cool but Gonzo is like way older and has a weird vibe and likes french new wave films WAY too much but everyone else seems to like him a lot so you just go along with it, even though he makes odd jokes, mishears people, takes a lot of smoke breaks and sometimes just goes silent. Halloween comes and he invites the whole club to his annual party and everyone is super stoked and you're a little anxious because what is this guys DEAL but you put on a Tigger costume, grab a couple bags of Chex mix and go over and a lovely chicken who introduces herself as his GIRLFRIEND lets you in, the place is decorated to the NINES, there's a steaming punch bowl and spooky lights, Camilla and Gonzo are wearing a Bob and Linda Belcher couples costume, Nightmare on Elm Street is playing on the TV, everyone is having a blast, you're admiring the wall of bookshelves they have in their living room, a lot of seminal chicken rights works. You ask Camilla if they're hers and she laughs "haha no they're Gonzo's, we actually met at a chicken rights event he helped organize." Ok, maybe you misjudged this guy. As you're walking down the hall from the bathroom you notice a photo of Gonzo on the wall in a military uniform. You wave him over and asked if he served. "Yeah one tour in Iraq," he laughs "I wanted to be a photojournalist for war zones, idiot teenage me thought it would be good training, but my supply convoy got hit by an IED and I lost most of my hearing and have a rod in my spine now. Got honorably discharged. I went back to school for film because it's the only thing that helped me sleep when I got back. I wound up watching most of the classics the first year I was home, just decompressing." He says he appreciates the film club because people don't judge him for being a decade older and he likes to be able to sit among people without feeling like he's responsible for their survival at all times, he can zone out to Herzog. He still gets nightmares sometimes, so he puts on Breathless, Camilla doesn't mind. Camilla is great. She got him to stop smoking weed all day every day, got his VA paperwork sorted. They've been together six years. Three years later Gonzo is one of your groomsman at your wedding.

How would an elf wear headphones without damaging their ears? 🤔 (I'm sure earbuds would be a go to but bare with me)

I'm sure there'd be lots of padding but perhaps a gap in the back so the ears don't get flattened....

Lots to think about here...
