My meticulous partner in TTRPGs, @marshdavies.bsky.social, has taken on newsletter duties this week to show you some of the insanely accomplished illustations he is producing, and also to interview the renowned scholar, @friede.bsky.social: "Austen is really about power and desperation."
Marsh & The Magdalena, Dr Emily Friedman on Actual Play, the 18th century, other things.
Ahoy, and welcome to the TEETH newsletter. This is an (aspirationally) weekly report about our travels on the TTRPG-seas, written and compiled by implacable...

Interesting how companies and the financial world is racing to spend mindboggling amounts of money to build the infrastructure to train computers. But we are leaving the infrastructure to train and educate humans crumbling. The question is who will train who?

If you're a RPG designer in (or near enough) to London and want to run a promotional intro game in our little shop, get in touch. We've got a weirdly large pool of TTRPG-curious people chatting to us every day. NAB THEM BEFORE 5E GETS THEM!

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Videogames are, of course, still a convenient scapegoat for ills in society. But it also shows that it's never about the money: it's about appealling to an image of the country based on the past. Conservatism is about denying the present and destroying the future.

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

In honor of Edgar Allan Poe's 176th deathday, here are a few of my recent pieces inspired by Poe's works 🫀
Illustration by Abigail Larson depicting a scene from Edgar Allan Poe's poem "Annabel Lee". Two lovers embrace at the edge of the sea, water splashes around them and the surrounding rocks. A full moon shines over them, and storm clouds loom.
Published in "Sticker Jigsaw: The Edgar Allan Poe Collection" 2024 Macmillan illustration by Abigail Larson of a raven perched on a skull with a teal curtain backdrop illustration by Abigail Larson depicting a scene from Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum" showing a man restrained as a pendulum blade swings close to him. Rats have swarmed around him, chewing the ropes that hold him down. This illustration is featured in "Sticker Jigsaw: The Edgar Allan Poe Collection" for Macmillan Books. Illustration by Abigail Larson for Macmillan's "Edgar Allan Poe Sticker Jigsaw" book. The illustration is a scene from Edgar Allan Poe's poem, "The Raven". The narrator is at the center of the image looking up at at raven perched above an open doorway. Behind the narrator is a tall window with red curtains, and the ghost of Lenore lurks nearby. A black cat is watching the scene from the lower right corner.

I assume this is obvious, but I’ll say it anyway:

The advantage of proscribing a non-existent organisation is that no one can prove they don’t belong to it.

New episode of Black Armada Tales presents: Ex Tenebris

A dark investigation game in a gothic star spanning setting.

This episode my character Tamzi gets a letter from the Black Gate... is this the serial killer who murdered her the first time?

Here are the computer hardware and software charts from November 1983 - PCN Magazine, UK. There were so many computers to choose from back then. Many disappeared without a trace, but the Spectrum, Commodore and BBC Micro sold really well. Great games available from Ultimate, Imagine, Bug Byte etc.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."
