The DOJ’s move could further embolden cities and police to marginalize homeless people, advocates say.

“They will feel like they have a license to do the sweeps and to otherwise make life in public view uncomfortable for unhoused people,” one said.

old great aunt prove her citizenship to vote in rural georgia, this definitely isn’t reminiscent of anything in the american past
🧵 There are a lot of misleading claims out there about the SAVE Act. Let me set the record straight: I voted for the SAVE Act for the simple reason that American elections are for Americans. Requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote is common sense.

honestly this stuff is insulting
I will continue to fight against Donald Trump’s reckless, and in many instances, illegal attempts to gut the federal government. He is testing our system of checks and balances like they haven’t been tested in my lifetime. The fight continues.

The idea that Democratic senators can play this cute “just the exact right number of us voted for the bill so we could all vote against it and have it pass anyway!” game might have worked in a local-news driven era. But it fundamentally misunderstands the national media environment today.

Schumer tells me Republicans might try to jam Democrats again in September, but thinks Trump will be less popular then and Republican appropriators might be more willing to stand up to him. He said they refused to do so now.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

get GOP on board (and other Dems) on board with campaign finance reform. do they want to lose their job by getting fired by their constituents? or do they want to be fired by Musk pouring billions in their primaries? at least with the latter they keep their oath to office.
If you were in Congress, what would you do for the State of the Union? What do you think Dems should do?

So increasing the minimum wage to a livable wage is “socialism”?

But Amazon union busting, keeping wages low, and forcing workers onto public assistance while its founder increases his net worth by $7.9M an hour is the "free market"?

Perhaps this could be a WaPo opinion piece.

The reporting on the trans travel visa ban is criminal.

It does NOT only affect transgender athletes.

The cables CLEARLY say it affects all trans people. They can reject visas on point 6 of anyone who is requesting a visa that does not match their assigned sex at birth.

While simultaneously deporting people not accused of rape, Trump is importing those who are. It's too above their intellect and ideology to talk about hypocrisy, rather understand that homegrown rapists and terrorists IS the point.

also, in the piece itself, hanania says that all of this is a reaction to "wokeness." it's a great example of how backlash narratives can work to obscure agency.
Think I’ll pass on the piece in which a racist creep explains why a major party embracing the Nazi salute really isn’t a big deal.

Rand Paul has introduced a National Right to Work Act.

The bill is an attack on organized labor and workers across the country.

It would make it harder for workers to unionize, win good contracts, and maintain their unions.
