The 3 miles around the White House and federal buildings are already beautiful and well maintained, and the only time there wasn’t money by NPS to clean things up more (which to be clear, it’s clean) is because of Trump taking AWAY funding from NPS

It already felt dystopian & weird last week to commute & see troops patrolling the metro - where they are doing nothing but look menacing, like their presence in the rest of the city. It’s the fed agents who are doing active harm
But now, commuting while troops hold & carry weapons is just. scary.

NEW—Earlier this evening agents from ICE/other fed agencies were outside Rhode Island Ave metro in DC asking people exiting the station for their IDs, per someone who experienced it. When the person presented their Real ID license, an agent said that wasn't sufficient. Luckily they had secondary ID.

Just so everyone is aware, DC is a safe place to live and just like the time Trump sicced the National Guard on DC during BLM protests during his last presidency, this is just his attempt to make the rest of the country think he has power, that DC is “bad”, and to mostly emphasize his own narrative
