This. Is. IMMORAL. it is *GASLIGHTING.* And far worse than garden-variety gaslighting, as the victim has much- reduced chances of ever *catching* you at it. It’s not about *them* feeling any better. It’s about YOU feeling better. Anyone who would do this to a relative has abandoned their humanity. 😡
The comments on this are all about how sweet it is and I feel insane. Using AI to make fake memories of your grandma with dementia and telling her they happened and then filming her reaction

Pig butchering isn't limited to investment scams: it also exists in the publishing space, and targets writers.
A "pig butchering" scam might open with a simple “Hi” or some good-natured confusion about why your phone number seems to be in the person’s address book.

It's the first step in a process intended to drain your bank account and ruin your life.

(Published Sept. 2022)
What’s a Pig Butchering Scam? Here’s How to Avoid Falling Victim to One.

you don't suck at art. you're learning. you aren't an awful writer, you're still understanding how things work. You aren't horrible, you see the places in your work that have space for improvement. Even if you think your art isn't the best, you still created something and you should be proud of that

Most publishing workers don't want to use AI, and being able to point to public outcry and contract language helps us push back against it 👇
Ask your agent to request anti-AI provisions in the contract/push back against clauses that require them to ok AI use! We kept saying “authors will hate this” and being told “nobody’s complained”

We will get paid less, many of us will be forced out of the field and/or the industry, generations of new writers will find their development stunted and their early-career opportunities limited, and ultimately, the quality of the work available to readers will suffer.

AI is a direct threat to our livelihoods as well as the future of our professions, not because AI is capable of doing any of the work, but because our industries will use the threat of AI to make us all increasingly precarious. Uncertain futures and worse working conditions.

Translators, illustrators, researchers and editors all do creative, human work that is important and cannot be reproduced in part or in whole by AI any more than writers. Their interests are our interests. To legitimize the use of AI to replace them is a failure of principle as much as strategy.

JK Rowling is destroying children's lives. Stop buying her shit, watching her shows, playing her games. You're funding her hate campaign. Move on.
Article in the Times today.

JKR has set her pre action attack team on a school supporting trans youth.

A father is threatening to sue for allowing trans children to use the loo they‘ve always used.

“I don’t wish trans people any ill”, he says, after casting them as voyeurs and sexual predators.

An honor to get momos with our Mayor-elect today! 🥟🗽🌹

#TeamNoSleep
A busy first day as your Mayor-elect: early morning interviews, transition announcements and meetings. More to say on all of it tomorrow.

But a highlight was lunch with my Congresswoman @aoc.bsky.social at Laliguras Bistro in Jackson Heights.

It didn't matter.
