and this is important because we can actually think about how much our current politics and media (ahem) are connected to this campus outrage discourse...it is eating us up

if not that it must be coming from some other place of grievance or self-conception or SOMETHING because why else do you care so much

maybe there’s some stage of middle age that I will reach where it will somehow be an object of major fixation to me what is being taught and said on college campuses but until then, what is everyone so worked up about
salome-gongadze.bsky.social
Occasionally I’ll be walking through a campus or whatever and my main observation is how young everyone looks and how insignificant this time will be in grand scheme of their lives, it really baffles me
salome-gongadze.bsky.social
I will just never, ever understand people who care so much what happens on college campuses be it protests or grade inflation or anything. I graduated 6 years ago and I give it soooo little thought in my life now.

we haven't reckoned how much online agitation about U.S. politics is coming from outside the country

it really does feel that the core of a lot of contemporary right wing ideology is a childlike rejection of complexity - the government shouldn't have to make difficult trade offs, clearly there are large areas where costs can be cut to avoid trade offs/taxes

Side point but is a pretty big dignity harm to American women that pseudoscience, anecdote, and undisguised personal bigotry are acceptable pretexts for all this talk about resegregating us out of large swaths of public life.

The White House is engaging in direct extortion of local and state governments, attempting to force them to change their policies by stopping funding projects that already have signed grant agreements with the federal government.

New: WH says it has put about $18 billion in infrastructure projects in New York City on hold "to ensure funding is not flowing based on unconstitutional DEI principles." Russ Vought, the budget director, specifically cited the Hudson Tunnel Project and the Second Ave Subway.

it’s always so funny when the media talk about the ability to flip narratives. who writes narratives

EXCLUSIVE: Trump spoke on the phone with our Dasha Burns ahead of a likely government shutdown.

Historically, the party in power gets blamed.

“The White House is pretty confident that they can flip that narrative,” says Dasha.

a key component of a good professional happy hour is that people be able to stand and mix around. if I show up and see a dinner size table with people sitting around it in fixed spots I will not stay long

What gets me about these so-called Christian warriors is how utterly hostile they are to the idea of being a protector, of the appeal of being someone who follows the rules and protects the innocent even at the cost of their own life.

There are only 41,000 coal miners in the United States. By way of comparison, there are 100,000 **registered** yoga teachers, 361,000 Starbucks baristas and 265,000 faculty and staff members working for the University of California system alone.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Fox: "We're announcing today expanded programs to help the American coal industry. We're helping it because for years it has been under assault. It was out of fashion with the chardonnay set in San Francisco, Boulder, and NYC ... coal just makes the world go round."
