Justine McCarthy: Pope Francis put women on a pedestal, where they could do no harm
In many ways, Francis was a good and unpretentious man who eschewed personal pomp. But he did little to advance the position of women in the Catholic Church

Something that always stays with me from training, 20yrs on is-
"if you leave someone feeling a bit more valued, a bit more heard, a bit more hopeful, if you uphold a person's dignity- then it's time well spent."
This is foundational. Even in the most complex situations, this simple guide applies.

So much of trauma[tic responses] isn't the awful event itself, it's the lack of support and sense-making from and with others in the aftermath.
My belief is that symptoms associated with post-traumatic response become more painful when the trauma survivor is surrounded by people who think traumatic experience is abnormal ,unusual, and uncommon.

'Portrait with Daffodils.' (1907) The use of flowers in paintings has origins in the literature of antiquity, where they were often used as metaphors. In this work by Oskar Zwintscher, we know there is loss; the daffodils and willow symbolize new life and hope for the future.

How can you can embody moral courage in your life?
Enacting your values doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. Actions can be small but must have a degree of risk, such as:
- speaking when it’s easier to be quiet
- standing up for someone more vulnerable
- visibly supporting a controversial cause

Feeling really listened to has a power to it that I don't think we quite appreciate enough. If it were a new medication we'd rave about it, pay a fortune for it. But it's not a scientific creation- it's a human way of being, a way of being present, a form of care🤍

What a difference it makes to have a supervisor where you can speak freely, including about doubts & worries, & know you're supported. Working with people in systems is hard, it just is. Imagine if we all had access to a safe relationship, separate from line management, to help make sense of it all.

This is a must-see! Edna's power and fragility, the nostalgic glimpses of 60s, 70s, 80s Ireland and London, her relationship with her parents and her children, the final interview in her majestic old age - oh wow the whole thing is so compelling - grab a ticket! 💚
Blue Road -The Edna O'Brien Story has now exceeded 100k euros at the Irish box office.
It's a lot for an Irish documentary on so few screens in 2 weeks + we know it's all due to word of mouth from our audiences and Edna herself.
