Yes, I take that NYT article about libertarians warning ppl about Trump personally. I was there. I saw it happen. Some libertarians did. Many did not, and mocked and fired those who did. Including the author of that goddamn article.

Yes, some of us did, but the libertarians at Reason were not prominent among them, except for the one who got fired for it.

When I worked for Reason magazine during Trump's rise to power in 2016, I was explicitly forbidden by the editor in chief from writing about Trump's racism, or the violence and racism at his rallies.

It was a "sideshow," I was told.

With a few exceptions, the items in this list are already the law. Republicans are saying it’s unrealistic for Trump’s goons to follow the law.
Here's what Republicans think is "unrealistic"

1) Need a judicial warrant to enter private property
2) Require verification that someone is not a US citizen before sending them to immigration detention
3) No masks
4) No secret police: Officers must have ID
5) Keep enforcement away from
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Thursday that demands made by Democrats for new restrictions on federal immigration officers are “unrealistic” and warned that the Department of Homeland Security will shut down next week if they do not work with Republicans and the White House.

Abolish ICE and fire all agents is the moderate position.
I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

As more comes out in the Epstein files, it’s again remarkable how many very rich and very powerful and very connected people place no stock in having a worthy character or cultivating anything like virtue, and instead wallow in moral wretchedness and seek to socialize with others who do the same.

You can test new tech ideas using the Seinfeld Test

Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)

Good tech.

Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)

Bad tech.

As always he's playing catchup, politicians are a lagging indicator etc., and I don't think he fully appreciates the implications of crossing this rhetorical line. But "illegitimate" is not a trivial word to have reached the point of being included in mainstream rhetoric of even the most tepid Dems.
Jeffries: "We cannot trust the Department of Justice. They're an illegitimate organization right now under the leadership of Pam Bondi and the direction of Donald Trump."

Pretti stepped up for a woman who’d been assaulted. He exercised his rights in the face of actual tyranny, not from a podcast booth. He seemed moral and decent. His valor reminds pus stains like Patel, Berry, & Watters that their macho shtick is sad and hollow. *Of course* they celebrate his murder.

Pretti clearly did not brandish his gun. Which means the government is saying he was killed for legally exercising his right to carry.

It’s as clear-cut a violation of the Second Amendment as I can possibly imagine. And we’re about to see the bulk of the gun rights crowd defend his murder.

Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.
