Said this many years ago and I will repeat:

The subscription model was always a bait-and-switch and the end goal was to return to the movies as Thomas Edison envisioned: pay to play on a solo screen every single time
Netflix added THE OUTRUN w/ Saoirse Ronan, but you can't watch it if you have an ad-supported plan.

You have to pay $10 more to upgrade to ad-free, or you're out of luck.

So I paid Apple $6 for a VOD rental — of a film that's on a streaming service I pay for. What a shell game. #FilmSky #Streaming

Why are some ashamed of our country only now? Yall should’ve been ashamed to be American from the get-go. This country has not nor has ever been a “good.”

If your pride is in our land, our nature, and our hearts, then it’s not “American.” It’s human. The opposite of this country’s root.

Yeah the fact that the American flag only appeared after "Uncle Sam" screamed at Kendrick to stop being so ghetto and to play the game.........I feel like the commentary was v present
Still not over Uncle Sam mocking the critique of Black music and culture as uncivilized and ghetto and then doubling down by saying America appreciates calm and peace, the exact moment Kendrick turned the whole thing around.

And with the white supremacist in chief in attendance? Masterful.
Forty acres and a mule, a Black Uncle Sam, and a declaration that folks be humble all draped in red white and blue?

Goddamn.

Really weird watching a coup in real time from my desk at work, putting in my usual hours. In the movies, everyone is at home or on the streets protesting. Makes it feel surreal.

Georges Méliès is all "Look, ma! No strings!" in THE MERMAID.

Méliès starred in most of his own films and was one of the first screen performers to really play to the audience, breaking the fourth wall and addressing them directly.

Heyo @moderation.bsky.app would love some help here. We are a community service for Queer film lovers in LA, not an adult account. While some events we share may be academic/scholarly presentations of adult content, or contemporary films with explicit scenes, we do not ever post Adult Content.
