The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

During the Civil War, more than 20% of Union soldiers were also foreign-born, mostly from Germany and Ireland. During World War I, approximately half a million immigrants were serving in the US military. “Foreigners have continued to serve in significant numbers since World War II.” #VeteransDay
In fact, immigrant service members fought in major conflicts since our country’s founding. “Hundreds of thousands of immigrants pledged to defend the United States with their lives in the Civil War, both World Wars, and conflicts like those in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq.” #VeteransDay
new from @tusk81.bsky.social:

Veteran’s Day can’t be properly observed without also noting the vast, heroic contributions of immigrant service members to the United States military.

Unfortunately, our nation has not always given its service members the respect they deserve.

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

Elect 50 Dems to the Senate, abolish the filibuster, & then immediately pass a bill that makes the Senate a purely advisory body. We do the will of the people in the House (which we should dramatically expand). We consult the Senate when we want an opinion from septuagenarian oligarchs.

The US Senate is a worthless institution that has, with a few very brief exceptions, been a reactionary force in the US for all its history, holding back progress, holding back the will of the voters, upholding a grossly oligarchic, patriarchal, racist hierarchy. Flush it down the toilet.

Abolish the Senate. I am absolutely dead serious.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

I wrote about the "Appeasement Eight" Senate Democrats getting the party to fold to Trump in the government shutdown, and why it shows that pro-democracy Americans badly need a real opposition party, full of leaders who recognize the United States isn't a normal rule of law democracy anymore.
Democrats Have to Get Out of a Normal Democracy Mindset
By folding in the government shutdown in exchange for virtually nothing, eight Democratic senators aid Trump's authoritarian takeover rather than oppose it

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

It is becoming apparent that even if the Dems take power at some point they will not punish those whose corruption and cruelty brought us to this miserable place.

Nor will they enact the reforms necessary to avoid future corruption nor will they insure the basic needs of citizens are met.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Trump stole this coat of arms. He's not allowed to use it in his UK properties, because they take this shit seriously.

The arms belong to the family of Joseph Davies, once US Ambassador to the USSR, then Belgium and Luxembourg.

Whose family motto is "Integrity."

There are, to my knowledge, only two significant individuals or institutions who break this rule, and use metals on metals. They signify by doing so that the normal rules don't apply to them - they claim a higher authority.

One is the Vatican.

The other is Donald Trump.
