This is the "testing the waters" phase of the playbook. The GOP ecosystem targets groups like Somalis, Haitians, and trans people specifically because they've calculated that the average person's passive disapproval won't ever turn into active defense. They're exploiting public apathy.
i'm really having a hard time getting past the "surely we can all agree that Somalis are worse than trash" thing. this feels new and very bad

Watching my daughter grow up without evangelical religious trauma is breathtaking.

She’s not scared of a hell, or a god who would condemn her to everlasting torture, and she’s never heard of a rapture. Growing up without that fear really does something good to a young person.

NEW: Our reporter visited a potential source’s home, where he introduced himself as a reporter and they had a pleasant conversation.

A few days later, VA Secretary Doug Collins sent out a tweet that accused our reporter of trying to “stalk” the employee.
Our Reporters Reached Out for Comment. They Were Accused of Stalking and Intimidation.
Our journalists reach out to people they’re writing about to ensure fairness. But in this environment, they’ve found their efforts to do so are more likely to be vilified than appreciated.

One of the most successful propaganda campaigns of our time is the right-wing claim that liberals dominate the media. The right has pushed this myth for decades on Fox and other outlets. You know about it because RIGHT-WING MEDIA HAVE A HUGE MEGAPHONE. My thread. 1/10 🧵

The White House claims the vote to rename the Kennedy Center was “unanimous.” That is false. I was muted on the call and denied the opportunity to speak or register my opposition. That is not consensus. That is censorship.

Last week, we forced a vote and passed @golden.house.gov's Protecting America’s Workforce Act to restore collective bargaining rights for over 1 million federal workers.

We're calling on the Senate to immediately pass the bill and deliver for working people.

Headlines about US descent into authoritarianism are coming so often that their pace risks people tuning the substance out. But the substance of these headlines is troubling, damning, and isolating as we find United States democracy eroding. www.politico.eu/article/us-p...

It's not a question of politics or party. Congress has a constitutional obligation to impeach and to remove a president who commits high crimes and misdemeanors and forsakes his solemn oath.

And there has never been a president who has committed as many impeachable offenses than this one.
There's a Hill bubble narrative, posing as savvy realism, in treating impeachment as some radioactive poison and so Democrats must squash any talk of it. But there's zero evidence for that. No polls back it up, nor recent history. It's all just pundit-brained conventional wisdom eating its own tail.

GREAT NEWS! The bill restoring collective bargaining for federal workers passed the House with bipartisan support. It's time for the Senate to do the same.
Earlier this year, Donald Trump denied 1 million federal workers their full and fair collective bargaining rights.

I spoke on the House floor in favor of a discharge petition to bring up the Protect America's Workforce Act for a vote, which would restore these rights.

I just voted NO on handing more than $890 billion to the Pentagon — the only federal agency that has NEVER passed an audit.

I cannot support pouring taxpayer dollars into the military industrial complex while American families can’t afford food or health care.
