➡️ Trump and his administration tell a lie.

➡️ Right-wing media reports on the lie as fact.

➡️ Trump administration cites the reporting to substantiate the lie.

➡️ Trump sees the lie on right-wing media and thinks it's actually true.

Media challenge: try writing headlines without using the word "antisemitism". Stop using Trump's framing for his authoritarian actions.
"Trump administration now monitoring immigrant social media" would be shorter and more accurate, since no-one really believes this is about anti-semitism.

It’s almost like the Biden team, while imperfect, did a lot of stuff correctly and knew that things would change for the better.
THE WORST DEFENSE OF THE TRUMP TARIFFS:

I wrote in the newsletter today about how annoying it is to hear people talk about how we need these tariffs to reindustrialize and counter China in high tech manufacturing.

We were literally just doing that!

The Trump administration abruptly laid off the entire staff running a $4.1 billion program to help low-income households across the U.S. pay their heating and cooling bills.
Entire Staff Is Fired at LIHEAP
The move threatens to paralyze the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which helps to offset high utility bills for roughly 6.2 million people nationwide.

🚨 Cory Booker has officially broken the all-time record for longest ever Senate speech, previously set by Strom Thurmond in 1957. He’s still going.

11,000 when I 1st tuned in. Attendees have been growing for hours.

Huge achievement. Not just impact on Senate—*he’s holding a rally with tens of thousands of people*.

True story: there were worries that Biden had a Peloton and how that might affect cybersecurity
“It introduces another attack point,” said a cybersecurity expert. “Why introduce that risk?”

100% this all the time always. There's no way Trump means (or thinks about) everything he says, but once he's said it and it's gotten him attention, he sticks to it like a goblin to its gold
You can see, in real time, constantly, Trump spouting some half-formed nub of an idea, and then when it engenders controversy, gradually transforming that idea into an overriding policy directive, because the alternative is to admit error, which is psychologically impossible for him

There’s been a lot of debate over whether Trump means this as a threat or it’s a troll. But the actual answer is it’s both. He dropped it as a throwaway line but his clinical narcissism does not allow him to believe any idea of his is less than perfect and brilliant, so he’s become committed to it
Trump: "To be honest with you, Canada only works as a state. We don't need anything they have. As a state it would be one of the great states. This would be the most incredible country visually. If you look at a map, they drew an artificial line right through it."

Gov. Abbott, don't play politics. Call a special election to replace Rep. Turner

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

This is one of the most unhinged things said so far. God sure doesn't give people the right to have a federal job, but the federal government sure does give workers the right to not be unlawfully fired, so 🤷‍♀️
Gill on veterans getting fired by Trump: "Nobody in the United States has a right by God to have a job at taxpayer expense at the federal government."
