Reflecting on my first year as a city councilor, and I’m so proud of what my team and I have accomplished, and we’re just getting started.

I banned rental price fixing, created fees for landlords who want to profit off detention facilities (like ICE)

This is pathetic 😂 a puff piece with no critical analysis and the usual voices they call on to prop up the status quo 🙄 meanwhile these papers have been eviscerating the peacock left and right all year for the most trivial crap. Frustrating how obvious the bias is and how there are few alternatives.
She has ‘the worst job in Oregon politics.’ But she wants to keep it
It's been no picnic for Elana Pirtle-Guiney as she's tried to lead Portland's first City Council under a new form of government.

Everyone who thinks the Oregon state legislature is simply too effective: here is your champion.
Cutting property taxes for Oregonians affected by wildfires. Canceling planned freeway tolls. Pausing local new taxes in the Portland area. We have to keep going to make life more affordable for Oregonians.

Do-nothing democrats are the reason trump won, and doing apologetics for decades of inaction is disgusting. If you think the student loan forgiveness failure happened in a vacuum, then you were just comfortably insulated from all the other ways dem failure to use power hurt people.

Portland Business Owners whining publicly about how they are overtaxed and don’t have enough access to government is extremely funny to me.

Aside from being demonstrably false, it’s basically telling everyone that if complaining via friendly media doesn’t work, you can’t do anything & we can ignore

Really happy with the Portland city councilors who voted to ban AI price fixing, pass the detention fee ordinance, and start the pricess for a human rights screen on city investments.

There’s a lot of noise and bullshit out there, but these folks are governing with their values.

It’s a tough year for non-profits across the board.

Economic downturn means fewer foundation dollars equals budget crises for lots of orgs.

Anyway, I enjoy fighting for you against the fossil fuel industry, and if you like that too, toss a few bucks our way.

Here is a FAQ sheet that will clarify what Portland City Council does and doesn't have power to do in relation to revoking the Macadam ICE permit.

TL;DR:
(1) CC cannot unilaterally revoke the ICE permit;
(2) CC cannot lean on PP&D to do it;
(3) the CC is exercising its authority in other ways.

Did anyone else who watched the detention fee ordinance hearing notice the ICE permit testifier who tried to own Morillo’s staffer for referencing Andrew Jackson in her presentation?

The reference to Jackson wasn’t saying he’s good! It was to illustrate his Trump-like disrespect for the judiciary!

The only rational response to this is launching a primary against every ineffective, moderate Democrat. If Rs win it’s because the Dems in state legislature have done virtually nothing for their progressive base despite holding supermajorities.

I think it’s honestly disgusting and deeply unserious that the Revoke the Permit people have clipped videos of my women colleagues eating pizza at the dais as some kind of shaming tool, which is now being used by right-wing media to harass them in misogynistic ways. Congrats everyone.

Welp, it looks like the Portland Metro Chamber’s solidarity with the community against ICE and a federal invasion ends at charging an impact fee to property owners who would rent their properties to detention facilities that harm neighbors & drain public resources.

Can’t say that we’re surprised!

Since Dan Ryan is ok with criticism of his policies “all day” I just want to point out that he’s 100% aligned with MAGA in his vote against the ban on AI rent-fixing.
Huge @tinanguyen.bsky.social scoop: Trump is preparing to try and ban all state AI laws, going so far as having Brendan Carr’s FCC pull rural broadband funds from states that try to regulate AI www.theverge.com/ai-artificia...
Here’s the Trump executive order that would ban state AI laws
