Thread. This is a crucial thing for non-Christian Americans to understand. Most Christian Nationalists think it’s an act of kindness on their part to tell you that you will be going to hell if you don’t convert. It’s incomprehensible to most of them that they’re being bigots.
I'm going to tell my favorite story again about reflecting the certainty of beliefs back at people who don't expect it.

A friend was one of the few Jews on faculty at a North Dakota University. Every year, his colleague in religious studies would invite him to come to his religious studies class...

This is a really good point that I had not run into before: these "creators" have no further insight into their alleged creation than the average audience member and that is why it cannot be called art (besides all the other obvious reasons).

Can't stop marveling at how calm, peaceful, and (most importantly) JOYFUL this Christmas season has been for me this year.

And I got here by valuing myself instead of all of that energy going to people who didn't show me my worth.

I've said it before, but this is the most "me" I've felt in YEARS.

If you begin Star Trek: Voyager episode Spirit Folk at exactly 11:49:35 on New Year's Eve, Ensign Harry Kim will kiss a cow as the clock strikes midnight. Join in a very dumb annual tradition and start 2026 off on the right hoof.

Metaphorically speaking, just because I don't want someone sitting at my table doesn't mean I want them to starve.

Empathy for all. Even those who see you as their enemy. ESPECIALLY those who see you as their enemy. It's hard to do. That's all the more reason why you should.
Perform empathy. Please. Perform the fuck out of it. It's so good to act with kindness. I hope it penetrates to a place where you feel it, too, but if you must act some way, act the right way. I'm not here to judge your authenticity, I just want you to be kind, thoughtful, and mortified by meanness.

I pretty much assume the plan is to really start pushing this narrative in the summer: that MAGA Republicans really want to give everyone $2000, but the Dems are holding it up, so if you want that money you need to make sure to vote MAGA in the midterms.

New Illustration: "We Beat 'Em Before..."

Taken from a British WW2 poster, the original features a WW1 German soldier at the top. I just swapped it for the Nazi soldier it had at the bottom.

If AI development mirrors the Manhattan Project, we risk prioritizing speed over ethics, leading to unintended consequences. A balanced approach is vital for a safe future. #futurism
If AI were The Manhattan Project, all of these tech bros would be trying to convince us they were Oppenheimer concerned for the future, when really they're Eisenhower saying "I don't care if they're ready to surrender, use the other bomb".

Somehow, despite the current, burning state of the world, I am more in the Christmas spirit than I have been for the last several years.

It does feel good to be back.
