Because the issue of population change is so widely misunderstood, here's a short thread which seeks to lay it out simply.
It explains why there is almost nothing anyone can do to change the global population trajectory, both as numbers rise, then as they fall.

Oil exporting countries have for the most part invested a lot in renewables because they want to use less oil and export more. They used to use oil for everything, including electricity production, because it's very cheap for them but then oil prices increased.

Until people in the climate movement very publicly stop eating meat and flying, we're not going to seem trustworthy.

I will die on this hill.
Meat is a blind spot for people who care about climate. When I used to have dinner with my colleague Wally Broecker, the climate scientist who coined the term “global warming”, he would always order a steak.

BP did this in 98. It was used to successfully promote carbon trading at the European level but, much like the market it inspired, did nothing to advance decarbonization. This wasn't a failure, rather it was the system working as intended.

"The triple crisis - biodiversity, climate, pandemics: cattle is at the heart...
Humanity’s taste for beef comes with a massive toll.
Livestock production in general: the largest threat to biodiversity globally.
The animal ag industry is one of the most heavily subsidized industries on the planet."
Beef production contributes to numerous global crises, from climate change to habitat destruction to biodiversity loss.

Many conservationists contend that the world must reduce the number of cattle on the planet and find other sources of protein.
Will we still eat beef in 50 years?

I think this is one of my favourite colourful climate chart type things, because it depicts two things at once:

- Things are going to get worse, no matter what

- The degree to which they get worse depends on decisions made today

We build vehicles that weigh 9000 pounds with 1000HP, can go 0-60mph in 3 seconds and market them recklessly.

We then ask people to wear construction vests to cross the street. This is all so beyond absurd and it's truly incredible that we've normalized this.

Compared to dairy, soy milk uses:
🌎 1/10th of the land,
