Oh, boo. The cat we were interested in adopting appears to no longer be available (after we finally submitted an application).

Maybe the cat distribution system will work out for us another time.

Today, I baked a tiny cake for my younger child’s birthday (yes my children have birthdays only a few days apart right around Thanksgiving, it is MADNESS), wrapped birthday presents, and dissociated over cat pictures while trying not to think about my aging parent’s deteriorating condition.

WHEEEE

When social security collapses, we will be told that it was inevitable.

It was not.

All of this is entirely optional. The Republicans are choosing to destroy the programs that keep millions of people who they hate alive, fed, and housed.

SCOOP: The Social Security Administration (SSA) will be shifting its public communication exclusively to X, sources tell WIRED. This comes as agency plans to cut its regional office workforce by roughly 90 percent.

There has literally never been a universal basic income trial program that didn't deliver real and measurable results above and beyond any other form of social welfare, and every time another concludes with the same findings the powers that be go "interesting! Anyway," and pretend it wouldn't work.

I am baking even more cake (well, cupcakes). The things that happen when you have 2 kids with birthdays 5 days apart.

Also I made a butt-ton of smooth jelled cranberry sauce (I love the canned stuff but it’s too sweet for me these days). I set a reminder to just buy a goddamn food mill next fall.

I was not prepared for how frequently 10yo boys call each other “bro”.
November 22, 2025 at 11:23 PM
Uh oh. The “sock sets” I managed to pry myself away from at the fiber festival are on sale via Etsy.

Just for the record, I (and my house) have survived the 10yo’s birthday party. 🎉

Wish me strength today as I host a birthday party for 8+ 9/10 year old boys.

My the house (and my eardrums) survive long enough to endure 20+ 6-year-olds next weekend.

This cake turned out very cute! (And delicious.)

Honestly. Whenever I hear someone claim that Socialism doesn't work, or is somehow worse than the Capitalist system that's choking us to death, I know that I can safely disregard anything else they have to say.

Their voice becomes that of an adult in a Peanuts special, though, which is always fun.

These 6” cake rounds are so TWEE and I love them. (Also I have gigantic hands, this is known.)

I have roughly 7lbs of frosting in my fridge. My refrigerator Tetris game is STRONG.

Whoops, I just managed to cut three fingertips on my left hand while cleaning the range hood. (It’s fine, just annoying more than anything else. Did not realize the edges of the stainless steel baffle would be so sharp! 😬)

Remember: don't eat the mid tier fast food chicken, don't play the wizard game, don't shop at the hobby store run by the bad guys from Indiana Jones, and don't donate to the bigot bucket.
I know it's a tad early but I know those bitches with the buckets will be out soon. Don't gove them a penny. The volunteers may not know but the salvation army is no ally and actively combative and harmful to many queer minorities especially during the holiday season

They make adorable LEGO Pokemon figures packaged INSIDE A POKEBALL! Perfectly sized to go in Christmas stockings!

I needed a little spot of joy today.

Went to the grocery store to acquire cake flour, left with $50+ of LEGO (and cake flour). I’m… not mad, honestly.

Going to battle the existential dread by cosplaying as a quasi-functional adult and braving my greatest nemesis: the grocery store.

I was watching a documentary about the end of WWII and it included a segment going over the layout of the underground complex/bunker under German HQ - all I can think is that no “ballroom” costs $300 MILLION.

Like I don’t want to be a conspiracy theorist but… 🤷‍♀️

This! By removing plenty of adept customer service agents from the equation, corporations have shifted that administrative burden onto each of us who have other full-time jobs so that technology has become more of a nuisance than it is a help. Resolving an administrative problem shouldn’t take hours

One of the strangest aspects of aging that they don't warn you about is watching as history gets rewritten right in front of your face and people 20 years younger than you confidently tell you about something you lived through and get it completely wrong.

Is there a name for that specific sort of pervasive dread that lurks on the edges of your psyche when you know there’s a distinct possibility of getting very bad news, but you don’t know when or if it will actually happen?

I’m just a girl, looking at Petfinder, wishing the “good with other cats” filter actually worked.

In related news, I really think a third cat would fix me. (But only if they didn’t spark conflict with our current cats.)

Today’s dinner brought to the table by the dollar deals at Neighborhood Produce - $2 for 8 (smaller) ears of corn, $1 for 2 big leeks, plus baby potatoes from a few weeks ago (stored from an earlier CSA share) - turned into delicious leek and corn chowder.
