Tories will abolish stamp duty to “revive the housing market”

First time buyers don’t pay it anyway (up to £300k) & the fact the average UK house price is 10x the average salary is the problem, not £5k stamp duty on a £300k house! And then there’s the £24bn lost tax revenue…

Totally deluded 🤦‍♀️

The same people to say that Britain is now a white-minority country.
Which one is it?

Not to mention that in terms of things like performing arts and other creative industries the UK punches well above its weight as well. We are good at these things, they can create jobs, we should be supporting them not belittling them.

I mean I know this will never happen, because she's a crank and she's not getting anywhere near power, but this is still a profoundly depressing world view. What are we without the arts, without creativity, without imagination?

Badenoch and Co see education only as a means to a massive income in some soul destroying career.

Devoid of imagination and the power of knowledge they view life entirely through the prism of the CV.

My advice always is to study what interests you and the rest will follow

My youngest walked well by the age of one (over 30 years ago) and used to stomp up and down the sitting room singing 'Do you HEAR the people SING singing the SONGS of angry MEN'. Pleased to report she's still a huge musical theatre fan.

When Kemi Badenoch called for a British version of ICE, is this the sort of thing she had in mind?
gbrockell.bsky.social
Claim: 10 cars rammed ICE
Truth: No cars rammed ICE

Claim: She boxed ICE in
Truth: ICE boxed her in

Claim: She shot a rifle at ICE
Truth: She did not have a rifle

Claim: ICE returned fire
Truth: Only ICE fired

Claim: She drove herself to the hospital
Truth: Paramedics found her

Body-camera video appears to contradict the government’s claim that Marimar Martinez, 30, drove toward officers before one of them opened fire at her late Saturday morning in Brighton Park, her attorney claimed.

There’s really only 2 values they mean: money and ethnonationalism.

What they see in the UAE is the 0% income tax and an immigrant underclass that serves their every whim and have no rights so can be treated however they wish.

They’re basically psychopaths.

The UAE is an authoritarian autocracy, a petro-state with no income tax for citizens, to bribe them for the lack of democratic voice or free speech

It is 85% migrant, a segregated society with a ban on integration in principle and practice, few rights, equal opportunities, nor voice for incomers

Well, this is interesting...the Covid spike is serious enough to reintroduce mask wearing in hospitals yet, as 60 and 70 year olds, neither my wife and I would qualify for booster jabs under current guidelines. 😷💉

Shropshire hospitals to reintroduce face masks after Covid-19 spike
Face masks will apply to parts of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Telford's Princess Royal Hospital from Wednesday.

The irony of course is that Putin finances Reform, not the Greens. But still, let’s gaslight our readers.

Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery. But when it involves sacrificing a distinctive identity, as in the case of Badenoch's Conservatives with Reform, it spells disaster. And Heseltine is absolutely right. It is all too reminiscent of sinister, 1930s-style, far right politics.

Just to be clear, an English degree - learning to critically assess texts - is actually one of the most dangerous for people such as Badenoch.

An educated population, able to bring hundreds of years of context to statements in a dawning age of AI slop and attention-seeking dishonesty is also vital.
bearlypolitics.co.uk
So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

As for this - in other words the government would rather we offshore our operations instead of generating jobs and exports in a high productivity sector in the UK. I despair...

What an awful, awful person Jenrick is.
bestforbritain.org
Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA

most "undercover operations" don't begin with the person in charge saying "I am sending out spies to do some spying" afaik—unless the goal is actually to freak out lefties and has nothing to do w/any information-gathering.
willoremus.com
Obviously not the main point here, but it's interesting how this is framed as content rather than policy.

"BREAKING" is typically what journalists or influencers say when they have a big story -- not what government officials say when they launch "undercover" operations

Heseltine at the Tory conf:

"Fascists of the 30s are back... Trump's language coincides with words here... The immigrant has replaced the Jew as the problem. We must make clear we will never have any part in the populist extremism of Farage... We don't need Trump's mouthpiece anywhere near No. 10.”
