Last week we had a *fantastic* presentation and discussion with Professor Helle Strandgaard Jensen (@sesamescholar.bsky.social) visiting from Aarhus University in Denmark! She discussed her journey as a digital historian, using AI in research, and the Web Child project -

From the walls of Copenhagen #trump #graffiti
A brick wall with a painting portraying Trump as a poop blocking a butt. He is saying "constipation nobody does it better than me!"

I'm visiting the iSchool at the University of Illinois. Besides super interesting conversations with the brilliant folks here and the wonderful company of @anuncivilphd.bsky.social I also get to do morning runs on the prairie.

Like explaining my students why hyperlinks were such a revolutionary invention. They can't imagine the world where it didn't exist.

That's the curse of nostalgia 😂

Give Buffy a go. I think it has aged much better than so many shows from that period. Only made it through half an episode of Ally before I had to stop.

Cannot weigh in on Samurai Pizza Cats, but do consider a rewatch of Buffy. Was a big hit with my 13yo.

If you are thinking about applying for an ERC grant and want inspiration, I've updated my paper where I tell how I got mine.

It now includes the application (B1+B2), the manuscript for the presentation I gave at my interview, the slides, and the nine peer reviews.

"I, Robot...you, Jane"

Thanks to the wonderful @sophieheywood.bsky.social I have rewatched Buffy S1E8 and now have another great source to how the Internet was represented in late 1990s kids/teen popculture. #ERCCoG #WEBCHILD

A "not in the field" question for colleagues who study higher ed: is there a concept in the literature that's something like "non-strategic opportunism" -- idiosyncratic decisions by institutions that take advantage of immediate circumstances, but are unrelated to institutional or sectoral mission?

This is *not* good.

My access to the BBC's written archives was vital for my Sesame Street book.

Without access based on my individual request, I would not have understood the beginnings of international marketing of children's television.

“They have clearly shifted to it being a resource for BBC business priorities. The corporation no longer recognises the value that working with scholars brings, despite the fact this is an archive of how public money was spent over most of a century.” #history 📚🗃️ #BBC
