The demonization of Somalis is no different than the demonization of Haitians before the election. It's a political attack and has to be actively fought—not through half-measures or expressions of tepid concern but by demanding decency from society and respect for all of humanity.

This is wrong. There is widespread antisemitism in the US, AND there is also deliberate conflation by Democrats and GOP of criticism of the genocidal, apartheid Israeli government and its occupation of Palestinian lands with antisemitism––itself an ultimately antisemitic move.

It bears emphasizing: The same admin that is attacking and defunding our universities, over what they call an antisemitism crisis, is now saying antisemitism isn't a problem at all.

The New York Times investigated 346 people who donated at least $250,000 to Trump and found that more than half of them (197) have received pardons, jobs, government contracts, special treatment, or favors.
Hundreds of Big Post-Election Donors Have Benefited From Trump’s Return to Office
Well into his second term, the president and his allies have continued aggressively raising money. Many donors have interests before his administration, The Times found.

“…to foster a campus climate of real inclusion, we need to convene and converse, not record and report. The details are tricky, but teachers and students can figure them out together. Our administrations and governments just have to give us the respect, job security and academic freedom to do so.”

I worked for Frank Gehry. Because of him, I went to The Simpsons Halloween party, had a key to the Disney Concert Hall, met amazing artists. Frank was wonderful to me. When I left his office, he said you'll do big things, just try to stay out of politics. Sorry, Frank. Your memory is a blessing ❤️

She was eventually let go, per David Goodhue of the Miami Herald, who also took this footage:

Very interesting number crunching that backs up my (anecdotal, and now very old) view as a bookseller that the best Booker winner, from the perspective of author and bookseller's commercial interests, is one with a long backlist.
Of the last twelve authors who have won the Booker Prize, only two (Marlon James and Douglas Stuart) have published another novel since their win. Obviously very recent winners skew the stat, but still a surprising figure to me.

Worth a read (though you may need to register to read it for free):
That difficult second Booker: the long-term impact of a win
In the week since its victory, 2025’s Booker winner David Szalay’s Flesh experienced a boost of 1,441% in week-on-week sales, according to NielsenIQ BookData.

The main takeaway from the whole Epstein thing should be that the rich and powerful people of the world are even more despicable, loathsome, and even inhuman than we realized before.

If you had any benefit of the doubt of the 1% before, it should be absolutely gone now.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!
