If you know other cases where DHS/ICE and other agencies demanded data about an activist's online accounts, I'm still digging. My Signal is shawnmusgrave.82

To put it another way, I have represented thousands of people. I cannot think of a single instance in which the initial police report was entirely correct. Not one.

Journalists, please stop copying them down as if they were. Or at least give context re credibility!

Whether you're a casual news reader or a breaking news reporter at the NYTimes, I implore you--please, please, please--do not believe or report DHS/ICE/CBP's side of events uncritically. End the state's monopoly on legitimate storytelling. They are not the objective arbiter of what really happened.

Body-camera video appears to contradict the government’s claim that Marimar Martinez, 30, drove toward officers before one of them opened fire at her late Saturday morning in Brighton Park, her attorney claimed.

Good afternoon. U.S. District Judge April Perry just took the bench for today's status hearing in Illinois v. Trump, over deployment of the National Guard.

Pity the ADL. It went out of its way to defend Elon Musk's definitely-not-a-sieg-heil, and in return gets this.

What I'm referring to. It's a privilege to be invited onto networks to talk about my reporting but I have limits. Similarly stopped doing NewsNation after Nextar took its Kimmel stance.

I really appreciate Justice Jackson contrasting the lower courts' meticulous and responsible approach to judging—extensive deliberations, written opinions—with the Supreme Court's slapdash, unreasoned work over the shadow docket. www.documentcloud.org/documents/26...
They have done so in reasoned and thoughtful written opinions—opinions that, in the nor- ‘mal course, we would get to parse, assess, and embrace or reject, while fully explaining our reasoning.

Another lesson in real world jawboning. DOJ pressures one company (Apple) into compliance. The next company (Google) also complies with no direct DOJ contact at all.

The company whose Maps app tells me where the highway patrol is (thx!) won't let scared and vulnerable people share ICE location.

all of these videos are horrifying. what feels so singularly striking and scary to me in all of them is the individual seething contempt and rage of these agents

ICE just blatantly violated the law and arrested sitting Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes while seeking to illegally arrest a patient in a hospital. Fuck these fascists.

Pete Hegseth is bragging about bombing civilians to death in international waters, as a DOJ lawyer is in federal court arguing that Hegseth can call up the National Guard — as he did over the weekend in Portland — to send troops into U.S. cities for virtually any reason.

Strong whiffs of Trump v. Hawaii!

How dare you point that out! Inflammatory.

New: Apple just removed ICEBlock, the app for reporting sightings of ICE, from its App Store after DOJ pressure. ICEBlock's developer tells 404 Media "we are determined to fight this."

"Capitulating to an authoritarian regime is never the right move."

Just filed a FOIA request on this — I expect it to be the first of many! So if you have thoughts on what I should request and from which office(s), that's also welcome too.

The DOJ is very much coming for Judge Faruqui. Here's a motion filed yesterday for emergency review, calling Faruqui's comments "legally unsupported" and "inflammatory." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
Screenshot from motion by DOJ filed 10/2/2025: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.285023/gov.uscourts.dcd.285023.15.0.pdf

"Magistrate Faruqui’s actions are legally unsupported, are inflammatory, have already interfered with and tainted the community’s grand juries, and show a clear bias against the Government that is not based in rational or objective facts. To the contrary, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has used Superior Court grand juries to return federal indictments for decades and the practice is well-supported in black-latter law. Simply put Judge Faruqui has chosen to ignore the law."

This was done at the direction of Pam Bondi. The US government is now dictating what apps you can have on your phone.

The underlying threat here is if Apple didn't comply, they'd slap billions in tariffs on Apple products.
Alt text: Screenshot of a Fox News Digital article reporting that Apple removed the ICEBlock tracking app from its App Store after the Department of Justice raised safety concerns. The article states DOJ officials, under Attorney General Pam Bondi, asked Apple to take down the app, claiming it endangered law enforcement officers and shielded illegal immigrants. Bondi confirmed the removal in a statement, saying ICEBlock put ICE agents at risk and emphasized DOJ’s commitment to protecting federal officers.
