Stephen Miller said the quiet part out loud. Trump has “plenary authority,” then suddenly went silent. Their plan wasn’t to be public yet. Clearly, someone hit the panic button in his earpiece.

It gets weirder: CNN uploaded the interview with the “plenary authority” comment edited out.

The RIAA was suing teenagers. We had to sit through ⬇️ this shit anytime we wanted to watch a DVD. A whole generation shamed for using Limewire and torrents. Only for these silicone valley assholes to now find copyright infringement a necessary evil they shouldn’t have to answer for

the answer to the trolley problem is not to pick who to sacrifice, it’s to dismantle the system that led to an unsafe trolley crossing.

if any part of your morality strategy involves picking a group to let die on a hill, throw the entire strategy out. it’s wrong.

Let's spell it out then. The motivation is
1/ empathy for our fellow human beings
2/ to raise the political cost of the British government's complicity to the point where London is forced to withdraw its support, thereby increasing the international pressure on Israel to cease its genocidal acts.

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Exactly. As you know, I'm very fond of Manchester. A while back there was an analysis of UK demographics and it came back with the datum that Manchester was the most cosmopolitan city in the country, with more varied ethnicities than anywhere else. I was delighted. A homogenous city is a dull city.

Saying 'I went to X place and saw no white faces' is the same as saying 'only white people can be British' and should get you hounded out of politics. The absolute ghouls.

I’m so embarrassed to be British. We have attacks on Muslims. Attacks on Jews and Jenrick with his vile rhetoric attacking everyone. I’m so sorry for everyone. We are so lucky in our country can’t we just be kind?

5 times I've been through the 'break / ban encryption' debate.

1st time was late 90s, trying to get encryption to use AT ALL.

Imagine what progressive tech could have built if we didn't have to drop everything to fight this BS off every few years.

At some point, you'd think they ought to conclude that *there isn't an acceptable, mandatory alternative*, and put the resources into other, more practical ways of addressing the *societal* problem of child abuse instead. But they'd rather have the means of mass surveillance and censorship. 🤷‍♂️

I grew up in the UK in the early eighties. Every time I see this flag, I am reminded it was used by members of the NF shouting racist slogans and beating people up.

I too feel fear when i see this flag. Not because of the flag itself, but because of people who brandish it as an excuse for violence

A friend of mine who no longer lives here posted this on Instagram just after the anti-immigration march and this was exactly my experience and that of countless other non-white folk I know.

Please don’t use these stickers - they’ll just add to the racist noise.
A screenshot of the headline “Tens of thousands attend anti-immigration march in London” with a photo of people on that march waving England flags.

My friend’s caption says:

Growing up in uk, I learned to fear this flag 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

If i got lost and ended up in a place where these flags appear, i knew to get away FAST.

I know i am not the only one. And seeing this on the news is terrifying. I sent messages to friends saying "be safe"

Two Irish novelists have now done more to break the blockade and end man-made famine in Gaza than the entire UK government.

the most delightful version of logging on to see what news you've missed
Dr Ramsdell, whose phone had been on airplane mode when the Nobel committee tried to call him, told the BBC's Newshour Programme that his first response when his wife said, "You've won the Nobel prize" was: "I did not."

To which Ms O'Neill replied that she had 200 text messages that suggested he had.
