It's New Year, so time to look back and forward. These are 10 things I think we need to recognise in 2026. It’s a response to what I think are profoundly damaging mistaken assumptions I’ve heard and read from practitioners, journalists, and analysts in 2025. Warning: very long🧵

I think this is the first time I've missed the old place. I always loved Spotify wrapped day and seeing what people I followed like for music/podcasts/whatever.

Hell I always find it surprising what random things end up in my top 100 every year.

Posts about urban biking in Dutch cities are routinely replied to with comments like “well, they have the big advantage of being relatively flat.”

The Dutch also have the big advantage of not constantly making excuses about why they can’t make clearly smarter city-making decisions. #Leadership

This is just a fantastic video, though I don't know if I'll be ready to watch the World Series one when he gets to it for a while yet.

“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas & city center in 2021.”
Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

Well I am 43, and have never had my team win it all. I liked baseball, but didn't really have a team back in 93. But fuck I loved watching these #BlueJays, it was a pleasure all year, thank you and starting tomorrow looking forward to next year. Tonight I'll just be sad.

I am like 4 hours away from being able to start watching game 6, and I don't know how the hell I'm going to get through this. I have spent the last 2 hours progressively more anxious and excited. Let's go #BlueJays, lets bring it home.

P.S. I will murder anyone that spoil's this game

If you are someone buying a bunch of tickets for a charity event people genuinely want to go to just so you can resell them at ridiculously inflated prices, I think you're a bad person and you need to re-examine your life! Thank you that's all!

For every €1 provided through a Basic Income For Artists pilot program in Ireland, the government got €1.46 back. So it’s being made permanent.

Over and over we see it. It saves public money to provide public housing. And it makes public money to provide basic income.

We can’t afford to NOT do it.
Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
